Married At First Sight rocked as longtime expert sensationally QUITS the show

There’s been a surprising change on Married At First Sight Australia: relationship expert Mel Schilling is leaving the show.

The relationship specialist who’s been a key part of the show since its second season announced on Monday that she’s leaving the popular reality TV program.

Mel shared a touching message explaining her decision, saying it followed a lot of thought. She mentioned her continuing health issues and the difficulty of balancing her life between Australia and the UK as key reasons.

After twelve amazing seasons, I’ve decided to leave my position as an expert on Married at First Sight Australia. It was a difficult decision, but I feel it’s the right time for me to move on.

I didn’t make this decision easily. With ongoing health issues and spending significant time – up to three months each year – away from my family while living in the UK, my current situation is no longer workable. I need to prioritize my family, health, and personal time, and this change will allow me to do that.

Mel is well-known for being the relationship expert on the commitment ceremony couch, helping countless couples navigate dramatic dinner parties, emotional revelations, and highly publicized splits.

Looking back on the show’s incredible success, she said it started as a simple idea but quickly became popular around the world. She felt lucky to have been a part of it and expressed her sincere thanks to the viewers, the people who made the show, and her colleagues for their support and dedication over the years.

I’m leaving the Australian version of the show feeling thankful for all we’ve accomplished together. This decision is the best path forward for my career, and I’m excited to continue working on Married at First Sight UK. Thanks to everyone who has been a part of this journey with me.

Her leaving signals the end of a long and successful run for the popular Channel Nine show, which has been a ratings and social media favorite for over ten years.

Oh my gosh, Adrian Swift, like, the head of everything at Nine, was talking about Mel, and it was SO amazing! He basically said Mel was absolutely crucial in building the show into what it is today, especially when it was first starting out. She really made it, you know? It’s just incredible to hear that acknowledged!

Mel was a key part of Married at First Sight since its second season. She played a big role in shaping the show and consistently offered valuable insights and understanding, both when matching couples and during the commitment ceremonies.

Throughout the past twelve seasons of Married at First Sight, she’s shared in countless successes and helped people overcome difficulties, all while remaining dedicated to finding love matches for Australians.

Everyone at Nine is incredibly grateful for her work on our most popular show, but we respect her decision to return home to the UK and wish her all the best with ‘Married at First Sight UK’.

Tara McWilliams, Director of Content at Endemol Shine Australia, echoed the sentiment.

Mel has become a beloved and essential part of the show. Since she joined, her genuine personality and enthusiasm have really connected with viewers around the world. She’s been able to both support and challenge the participants, which has significantly impacted the show’s development and spirit.

We’re incredibly thankful for everything she contributed to the show. While we’ll truly miss her skills, kind personality, and unique spirit, we fully support her choice to focus on her family and life in the UK, and we wish her all the best.

Married At First Sight continues Tuesday at 7.30pm on Channel Nine.
