Summary

  • Nicolas Cage stars as Ben Reilly in the first trailer for Spider-Noir, set in 1930s New York

Nicolas Cage is joining the live-action Spider-Verse as Spider-Noir! The first trailer shows a starkly different take on the character, swapping bright animation for a gritty, film-noir style. This version of Spider-Man is a tough detective operating in the shadowy, rain-swept streets of New York City during the Great Depression. It’s a clear play on the idea that ‘with no power, comes no responsibility.’

Okay, so this new series drops me into 1930s Manhattan as Ben Reilly, a washed-up private investigator. Turns out, I used to be the city’s only superhero, and now I’m dealing with all that baggage. It’s way different than the Spider-Verse Peter Parker I did – this is a much more realistic, gritty look at the character. The trailer shows me stumbling around smoky clubs, getting into fights with gangsters, and trying to balance it all with a simple egg cream. It’s a tough life, being a former hero!

The show’s visuals are inspired by classic films. In an unusual approach, Amazon Prime Video will release it in both traditional black and white, and a color version called “True-Hue,” letting viewers choose how they want to watch. Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot are the showrunners, and Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, known for their work on Spider-Verse, are executive producers.

The video offers a first glimpse of the actors in the series. Lamorne Morris plays Robbie Robertson, a journalist, and Brendan Gleeson is Silvermane, a powerful mob boss. The cast also includes Li Jun Li as the mysterious Cat Hardy, Jack Huston as Flint Marko, also known as Sandman, and Karen Rodriguez.

The new series, Spider-Noir, will first air on MGM+ in the US on May 25, 2026. Then, on May 27, 2026, it will be released worldwide on Prime Video, where you can watch all episodes at once.
