Okay, so I’m still totally on the edge of my seat waiting to find out if will be back! It’s actually kinda crazy – even Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who was in the show, doesn’t know what’s happening with it yet! It first came out on Prime Video almost three years ago, back in April 2023, and honestly, people were pretty divided about it when it premiered.
The first season of Citadel aimed to hook viewers with its ambitious scope, but it didn’t meet expectations despite a massive $300 million budget – making it one of the priciest TV series ever created.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who plays Nadia Sinh alongside Richard Madden’s Mason Kane in Citadel, shared good news about Season 2. However, she also hinted that things might be uncertain for the show after that.
The award-winning actress confirmed there will definitely be a Season 2, but she doesn’t know what else is planned. She explained that she focuses on her work and doesn’t ask about future plans.
Yikes — that’s not exactly a ringing endorsement for the future.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ Citadel Faring Worse Than Its Spin-Offs
With a huge budget of $300 million, this series can’t afford to disappoint critics or viewers. So far, reviews haven’t been great – it has a 52% rating from critics and a 62% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on over 1,000 reviews.
That’s unacceptable, particularly given this project involves The Russo Brothers, who have a proven track record of massive success with both blockbuster films – especially within the Marvel Cinematic Universe – and streaming hits like the Extraction films on Netflix.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas shared her appreciation for the Russo brothers, explaining they’ve played a significant role in her career. She recounted how Joe Russo casually sent her a script via text message one day, which was typical of his approach. Now, four years later, they’re working together.
Despite mixed results, Citadel—and its spin-off, Citadel: Diana—managed some success, particularly in Italy and India, and showed slightly more appeal to viewers internationally.
The success of Citadel Season 2 is crucial for the show’s future in the U.S. If it doesn’t impress Prime Video executives when it arrives in 2026, the show could be canceled.
