Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Halftime Show broke records, attracting a massive 135.4 million viewers – the most ever for the event.
Bad Bunny, the 31-year-old singer of “Tití Me Preguntó,” thrilled fans with his performance headlining Sunday’s game at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Martínez Ocasio, performed his popular Latin songs like NUEVAYoL, DtMF, and EoO at the stadium.
Okay, so there was a lot of initial criticism from some conservative voices and even former President Trump, but I’m thrilled to share that the halftime show actually turned out to be the most watched in history! The live viewing numbers just came out, and they’re incredible. It really shows you what people wanted to see.
An incredible 135.4 million viewers worldwide tuned in to watch the live performance, where he also made Super Bowl history as the first artist to perform a full set in Spanish.
This year’s show surpassed the previous record of 133.5 million viewers, which was set by rapper Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance last year.
In comparison Usher’s 2024 performance had 129.3million views and Rihanna in 2023 had 121million.
Bad Bunny amazed the audience during the halftime show, and fans were especially surprised to see Lady Gaga and Pedro Pascal join him.
Okay, so last night was amazing! Everyone was still buzzing after the opening performance when Lady Gaga unexpectedly joined the artist on stage. She didn’t just sing any song, though – she gave a totally fresh, salsa-infused take on ‘Die With A Smile.’ It was such a fun and surprising moment!
Ricky Martin also joined the show later to perform Lo que le pasó a Hawaii.
One fan shared on X that the halftime show was incredibly exciting, saying it was like a major rush for someone who loves both Lady Gaga and Bad Bunny.
‘bad bunny and Gaga’s relationship is the cutest thing ever,’ another viewer enthused.
One reviewer raved about Bad Bunny’s performance, saying it was amazing and they especially loved the atmosphere and visual presentation. They also gave high praise to the appearances by Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin, adding a final ‘amazing’ for Bad Bunny himself!
Another viewer felt similarly and praised the visual elements of the halftime show.
Everything was perfect – the production, set design, visuals, choreography, Lady Gaga, and Bad Bunny all received top marks. It was a ten out of ten experience across the board.
Others noted that the guest spot was fitting, as Bad Bunny is an avowed fan of Lady Gaga.
One viewer pointed out how amazing it was to see Bad Bunny, a huge Lady Gaga fan, bring her on stage with him. They called it a dream come true! 😭
Bad Bunny kicked off his primarily Spanish-language performance with “Tití Me Preguntó,” singing as he walked through a sugarcane field built for the show.
He wore a simple white t-shirt and drawstring pants from Zara, and held a football with his hands covered in white gloves.
In addition to Pedro Pascal, the crowd was populated by stars including Cardi B and Jessica Alba.
He finished the show by shouting ‘God bless America!’ and then honored the diverse backgrounds of many immigrants by listing countries throughout Latin America, finishing with the US, Canada, and his home of Puerto Rico.
Above the field, a bright electronic billboard displayed a message: ‘The only thing stronger than hate is love.’
Bad Bunny forcefully threw the football to the ground as fireworks exploded around the stadium, and red, white, and blue smoke rose in pillars.
With the Super Bowl approaching, many people were curious if Bad Bunny would use the event as an opportunity to publicly criticize a potential second term for Donald Trump and the increased immigration enforcement actions being carried out by ICE across the United States.
Before the musician even started performing, some football fans – especially those who support Donald Trump and identify with the MAGA movement – expressed their dissatisfaction online.
Bad Bunny had performed at the Super Bowl before, making a guest appearance during the 2020 halftime show alongside Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.
He made history as the first Latin artist to perform as the sole headliner during the Super Bowl halftime show.
He delivered this performance only a week after making Grammy history, winning Album of the Year for ‘Debí Tirar Más Fotos’ at the 68th annual awards ceremony.
The win marked the first time a Spanish-language LP has won the coveted Grammys honor.
Bad Bunny was visibly moved when he won a Grammy. He sat down in shock and cried for several seconds, covering his face with his hands after hearing his name announced.
Bad Bunny, speaking primarily in Spanish, used his acceptance speech to show support for immigrants. He referenced recent ICE raids and dedicated the award to those who left their homes to pursue their dreams.
But he made his criticism of the agency explicit elsewhere in his acceptance speech.
Before expressing his gratitude, Bad Bunny shouted ‘ICE Out’ to the thrilled Grammys crowd, sparking a huge reaction.
Okay, seriously, he gets me. He gets it! He was like, ‘Look, people need to understand, we’re not some wild, crazy thing, we’re not from another planet, we’re just…people. American people!’ And it just… resonated, you know? It’s like he was speaking directly to me, finally putting into words what I’ve always felt. It’s so powerful!
Hatred grows stronger when it’s met with more hatred. But love is even more powerful. We must choose a different path, and if we disagree, let’s do so with love and understanding.
Bad Bunny explained, ‘We have nothing against anyone; we love our fans and our families, and that’s how we prefer to handle things – with love.’
