Ah, the sweet scent of panic in the air! Trump’s crypto whisperer, Patrick Witt, is ringing the alarm bells, urging lawmakers to swallow the bitter pill of the CLARITY Act before the Democrats swoop in with their regulatory guillotine. Inaction, he warns, will leave the crypto world at the mercy of those who’d rather see it buried than bloom.
In a dramatic plea to the industry, Witt declares: accept this flawed bill or face the iron fist of future regulations. A choice between a pebble in your shoe and a boulder on your chest, as they say.
On the grand stage of X, Witt proclaims, “No bill is better than a bad bill.” Ah, the luxury of such wisdom, courtesy of Trump’s crypto-friendly reign. Yet, let’s not fool ourselves-the regulatory hounds are at the gate, and the question is not if, but when.
“No bill is better than a bad bill.”
What a privilege it is to be able to say those words thanks to President Trump’s victory, and the pro-crypto administration he has assembled.
But let’s not kid ourselves. There will be a crypto market structure bill – it’s a question of…

Democrats: The Crypto Boogeymen?
Witt paints a grim picture: pass the bill now with a crypto-friendly president and Congress, or watch the Democrats craft punitive rules in the wake of the next financial crisis. A choice between the devil you know and the one you don’t, it seems.
“You may not like all of the CLARITY Act,” Witt muses on X, “but I assure you, you’ll despise a Democratic version even more.” He points to Dodd-Frank as a cautionary tale-a post-2008 regulatory monster that reshaped finance with its iron grip.
The crypto market, he argues, is a wild stallion running free without federal reins. Any notion of its perpetual freedom is, in his words, “pure fantasy.”
He sings praises of the current regulatory climate: the SEC and CFTC, led by Trump’s crypto champions, and a Republican Congress. A golden age, perhaps, but how long will it last?

Retail Investors: Between a Rock and a Hard Place
Not everyone is drinking Witt’s Kool-Aid. CryptoWendyO, a voice from the retail trenches, tweets her skepticism. “You are not wrong,” she concedes, “but this is retail’s chance to get ahead. It’s heartbreaking to see politicians take even more from us.”
You are not wrong, but at the same time this is retails chance to actually be able to get ahead and it’s really sad watching public servants continue to take more from us.

CryptoWithKris chimes in, warning against underestimating the stablecoin yield issue. “If the banks win now, it will never change,” they declare, a grim prophecy for the crypto faithful.
Don’t gloss over the stablecoin yield issue. If the banks win now it will never change.

Compromise: The Bitter Pill of Politics
Witt admits that compromise is the name of the game. With the Senate requiring 60 votes, Republicans alone can’t carry the day. He urges the industry to refine the bill, but warns that perfectionism could kill it entirely.
The CLARITY Act aims to draw a regulatory map, dividing crypto assets between the SEC and CFTC. A noble goal, perhaps, but one mired in the mud of political reality.
Witt’s message reflects the industry’s dilemma: seize the moment or hold out for better terms? The pro-crypto winds of the Trump era may not last, and the regulatory storm clouds are gathering on the horizon.
In the end, the crypto world stands at a crossroads, torn between hope and fear, compromise and resistance. Will it choose the pebble or risk the boulder? Only time will tell.
