A company that provides services to healthcare providers recently experienced a massive data breach, which may have compromised the personal and medical details of more than a million people in the United States.
A recent data breach at Medical Computer Business Services (MCBS) has affected over 1.2 million Americans. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has classified the incident as a hacking event, and hackers were able to access MCBS’s computer network.
In September 2025, the company discovered someone had illegally accessed its systems and stolen data. This data potentially includes personal information like names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, health plan details, insurance policy numbers, and other medical records.
When we learned about this potential issue, we immediately launched a full and thorough investigation. We’ve been working closely with leading external cybersecurity experts to help us understand what happened. After a detailed forensic analysis and review of relevant documents, we determined that certain files containing your personal information may have been accessed without authorization around May 28, 2026, with the incident likely occurring between September 22 and September 26, 2025.
MCBS provides administrative, financial, and operational support to hospitals, private practices, and medical groups, acting as a behind-the-scenes business partner.
The company immediately informed people whose information was involved and is offering free identity theft protection as a safety measure. So far, MCBS reports no evidence that anyone’s personal or health information has been misused.
