The first image from the upcoming film Elsinore, starring Andrew Scott, has been revealed. Scott portrays actor Ian Charleson in the biopic, which also features performances by Olivia Colman and Billie Piper.
Focus Features will release the film in North America, and STUDIOCANAL will handle distribution in the UK. It’s scheduled to open in the US on November 20th, but a UK release date hasn’t been announced yet.
The film Elsinore will be shown at both the Toronto International Film Festival and is anticipated to debut worldwide at the Telluride Film Festival.
Actor Charleson starred in acclaimed films like Chariots of Fire and Gandhi. He was diagnosed with HIV in 1986 and sadly passed away in 1990 due to complications from AIDS.
His death marked the first time a UK celebrity had publicly acknowledged dying from complications related to AIDS, which helped bring greater attention to the condition. Charleson’s final performance was as Hamlet, and his run in the play ended only two months before he passed away.

Stephen Beresford, the writer of the 2014 film Pride – which tells the story of gay rights activist Mark Ashton – has written Elsinore. Scott also stars in the production. Simon Stone, who directed The Woman in Cabin 10 starring Keira Knightley, is directing.
