Deadpool’s Next MCU Movie Might Have Just Been Revealed By Marvel Studios

Deadpool is sure to reappear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and we may have a hint about what he’ll do next. Ryan Reynolds was already well-known for playing the character before joining the MCU, thanks to the popular Deadpool films he starred in for Fox.

The release of Deadpool & Wolverine marked a significant turning point. With the full support of Marvel Studios and the possibilities of the multiverse behind it, Ryan Reynolds, who co-wrote the film, created one of the MCU’s most successful movies. Remarkably, Deadpool & Wolverine remains the highest-grossing R-rated film ever, an impressive achievement as the first R-rated movie in the MCU.

Now that Deadpool and Wolverine have joined Marvel, the big question is where they’ll appear next. Avengers: Doomsday seems like the most logical choice, considering several actors from the original X-Men films – including Hugh Jackman – are already in the movie. However, Marvel hasn’t confirmed anything yet.

Deadpool’s place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a hot topic right now. Some believe another solo film is most likely, but Ryan Reynolds has suggested he envisions Deadpool assisting other heroes in future movies. Recently, with an unexpected appearance scheduled for 2026, fans have developed a new idea about what’s next for Deadpool on the big screen.

Deadpool’s San Diego Comic-Con 2026 Appearance Included An Interesting Costume

Hugh Jackman joined other Marvel Cinematic Universe actors at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2026 for a presentation by Marvel Studios. He participated in the segment about Avengers: Doomsday, but instead of appearing onstage with the main cast, he initially pretended to be a fan dressed as Deadpool. In disguise, Jackman asked questions to stars like Paul Rudd and Robert Downey Jr., including when filming began on Avengers: Doomsday. He playfully acted disappointed when told the movie was already finished. This surprising appearance confirmed that Deadpool isn’t in Avengers: Doomsday, but hinted at his return in a future project.

Fans hoped to figure out which Marvel project Ryan Reynolds might appear in next by looking at his Deadpool costume from San Diego Comic Con. He wore a gray and blue version – a big departure from the red and black suit seen in the movies. Reynolds jokingly hinted on Instagram that the color was inspired by Jean Grey, possibly referencing rumors about Sadie Sink’s role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. However, Deadpool actually wore a similar gray suit when he was part of the X-Force team in the comics, leading some to believe this was a subtle hint about his next appearance.

Deadpool’s MCU Future Reports Make An X-Force Movie Likely

Reports indicated that Ryan Reynolds was working on a Deadpool project involving a team-up with other X-Men characters. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the plan as of May 2, 2025, was for Deadpool to have a supporting role alongside three or four other X-Men. Given this information, and the fact that Reynolds appeared in a gray Deadpool suit at San Diego Comic-Con, it’s possible his next film could be an X-Force team-up movie.

The X-Force team first appeared in live-action in Deadpool 2, but most of its members were quickly and comically killed off. Marvel Studios has a great opportunity to revive Josh Brolin as Cable and Zazie Beetz as Domino in a dedicated X-Force movie. In addition to Deadpool, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Dafne Keen’s X-23 are also likely candidates to appear, as they last appeared alongside Deadpool at the end of Deadpool & Wolverine.
