I was so sad to hear that Ronnie Le Drew passed away at 78. As a kid, I absolutely loved Rainbow, and he was Zippy! He was such a big part of my childhood. The British Puppet Guild said his work will always be remembered, which is totally true – he really did bring joy to so many people.
It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our President and friend, Ronnie Le Drew, after a brief illness. Ronnie dedicated ten years to leading our organization and was an incredibly active and supportive president – truly one of the best we’ve ever had.
He was a constant presence at almost all events, both virtual and real-life. He readily performed whenever requested and happily spent time talking, sharing anecdotes, and generally entertaining others.
Ronnie was famous for creating Zippy, but he had a huge impact on the world of puppetry that went well beyond just one character. Many puppeteers are deeply saddened by his passing. He touched the lives of so many people, and his work will continue to inspire for years to come.
