I’ve been following Widow’s Bay closely, and it’s great news for fans! The first season dropped on Apple TV back in April, wrapping up in June, but thankfully, Apple didn’t hesitate to renew it – they announced more seasons before the finale even aired. Just at San Diego Comic-Con, showrunner Katie Dippold let us know that they’ve already begun the writing process for Season 2, which is a fantastic sign that we won’t be waiting too long for more episodes. Things are definitely moving forward, and I’m excited to see where they take the story next.
Widow’s Bay Will Start Filming in 2027

Dippold shared that the writers for Season 2 have just begun meeting and will be working on scripts for the next 20 weeks.

The story Widow’s Bay takes place on a secluded island in New England where most people believe a curse hangs over the town. However, the mayor, Tom Loftis, doesn’t believe in the curse and is focused on bringing more tourists to help save the island’s struggling economy.
Once things begin to improve in town, strange local stories unexpectedly start becoming real. Ghosts of clowns, terrifying sea creatures, and other supernatural beings appear, making Tom doubt his understanding of everything around him.
Matthew Rhys played the lead role of Tom in the series, with Kate O’Flynn, Kevin Carroll, Dale Dickey, Kingston Rumi Southwick, and Stephen Root also starring.
Widow’s Bay Received Stephen King’s Stamp of Approval
Stephen King, the famous horror author, is a big fan of good television. He regularly shares his quick thoughts on shows – both scary and otherwise – on social media. Recently, he particularly enjoyed Widow’s Bay, simply writing on X, “Widow’s Bay is good.”
Apple TV+’s Widow’s Bay received an impressive 19 Emmy nominations for its first season, including a nod for Outstanding Comedy Series. This success follows the showrunner’s earlier sharing of a sample script, hinting at the show’s potential.
Dippold shared that he originally wrote the script as a sample for Parks & Recreation, but that version was significantly funnier. He believes it showcased his comedic style well. However, he added that he wouldn’t have enjoyed seeing it done as a comedy because it might have felt like a parody. As a horror enthusiast, he wanted viewers to feel fully drawn into the story and setting.
Matt Cherniss, the head of programming, has confirmed the network intends to renew the show for several seasons. He acknowledged the renewal process took some time, but stated they aimed to announce it while the current season was still gaining popularity. He emphasized there was never any doubt they wanted the show to continue for multiple seasons.
