The Marvel Cinematic Universe has a new A-lister in it’s roster.
At San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that Ryan Gosling will star as Ghost Rider in an upcoming solo Marvel movie.
Shawn Levy, who directed the upcoming hit movie Deadpool & Wolverine, is also directing this new film. It’s expected to come out around 2028, according to Variety.
Ryan Gosling has joined the cast of a new Star Wars movie, titled Starfighter, which is scheduled to be released on May 28, 2027.
The director, Levy, finished filming with Gosling last year and recently joined him on stage when Marvel’s Kevin Feige revealed the exciting news.
He recently announced his departure from a new film directed by the team behind the 2022 Oscar winner, Everything Everywhere All at Once. He had been cast and was set to begin filming this summer, with initial reports citing scheduling issues as the reason for leaving.
The Daily Mail has contacted Gosling’s team and Marvel Studios, but they haven’t received any additional information yet.
During a recent discussion, Levy reminisced about working with both Marvel Studios and Ryan Gosling, whom he playfully praised using strong language.
Oh my gosh, this is amazing! Being back here reminds me so much of two years ago – it feels like a dream! We were all together then, revealing Deadpool & Wolverine, and now I’m standing right next to Ryan Gosling and Kevin Feige again. It’s totally bringing back the best memories!
‘I’ll never forget that night, because I was introduced to the greatest fans,’ he continued.
Levy complimented Margot Robbie, noting that they’ll be working together on a different film project soon.
‘Gosling is the absolute s***. I say that with tremendous respect,’ he said about the actor.
We put a lot of effort into making Starfighter last year, and when Ryan began discussing this character, I immediately wanted to be involved. We’re excited for everyone to see it in 2028!
Ryan Gosling is taking over the role previously played by Nicolas Cage, who starred as the character in two films for Sony.
Interestingly, Ryan Gosling’s partner, Eva Mendes—who many believe he secretly married and with whom he has two daughters—also appeared in the original Ghost Rider movie with Nicolas Cage.
As someone who keeps up with Hollywood, let me tell you, Nicolas Cage is no stranger to playing complex characters! He actually was Johnny Blaze in both the original ‘Ghost Rider’ movie back in 2007, and then he reprised the role for the sequel, ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance,’ a few years later in 2011. It’s always interesting to see actors revisit roles like that.
Eva Mendes wasn’t in the second Ghost Rider movie. She spent that time filming The Place Beyond the Pines in 2011 instead.
It was on that set where she and Gosling met playing onscreen lovers and started dating.
Gabriel Luna previously played Ghost Rider in the TV show Agents of SHIELD.
Nicolas Cage’s Ghost Rider movie explained how Johnny Blaze, a motorcycle stunt performer, transformed into the fiery hero known as Ghost Rider. He made a deal with the devil to save his father, but the deal ended up having unforeseen and negative effects.
While the demon cures his father’s cancer, Johnny’s dad perishes in a fatal stunt accident.
Johnny unexpectedly connects with a powerful, vengeful spirit, which gives him the power to turn into a fiery, skeletal motorcycle rider.
Ghost Rider harnesses super strength and wields chains on fire as weapons.
He can also make people feel the same pain they’ve caused to others with his special gaze, known as the Penance Stare.
About two months ago, news came out that Ryan Gosling had decided not to participate in an upcoming movie project directed by the filmmaking duo known as Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert).
According to Deadline, the movie planned to shoot in Los Angeles this summer.
We don’t yet know what the movie will be about, but it’s scheduled for release in late 2027. The actor who starred in ‘Project Hail Mary’ is no longer involved.
Ryan Gosling recently appeared in the highly successful sci-fi film Project Hail Mary. Released in March, the movie earned $300 million worldwide in its first two weeks.
