Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Team is Considering Adding Hard Mode, Transmog Confirmed

Capcom is known for surprising announcements, but the reveal of Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen was a real shock. It was announced during the recent Nintendo Direct and will be available this October on all platforms, including the new Nintendo Switch 2. The development team actually started working on this expansion about six months after the original game launched, focusing on what players wanted most – and didn’t want – in the sequel.

Director Kento Kinoshita recently told Famitsu that Dark Arisen won’t include level scaling – meaning enemies won’t get stronger as your character levels up. He explained they chose not to implement it because players have different preferences on whether or not they enjoy that feature. However, the development team is thinking about adding a Hard Mode for players who want a tougher challenge.

The producer clarified they’re looking into adding a Hard Mode to Dragon’s Dogma 2, not that it’s definitely happening. Naoto Oyama explained that while many players have asked for this feature since the game launched, they are still figuring out how to best implement it, potentially in both the main game and the new ‘Dark Arisen’ areas. No final decisions have been made yet, but they plan to share more details closer to release.

The good news is this expansion adds transmog, letting players change how their gear looks without sacrificing stats. While the exact details are still coming, it seems you’ll unlock transmog options by exploring the world of Norgan as you play.

I’m so excited! It looks like Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is coming out on October 9th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and even the new Nintendo Switch 2. Apparently, there’s a whole new story to play through, plus you can hunt for relics in this area called Norgan – which you can then trade in for awesome armor and weapons! The developer, Oyama, says we’re looking at over 25 hours of brand-new content with the addition of twelve super tough Challenge Dungeons. And great news if you’re playing now: Capcom is planning a big patch later in August to make everything run even smoother.
