More and more people are traveling to locations featured in their favorite TV shows – a trend known as ‘set-jetting.’ The exciting part is you don’t have to travel far to experience it! Many popular shows are filmed in beautiful places right here at home, though there’s always the option of exploring more distant destinations if you prefer.
Whether it’s an epic fantasy movie or a historical drama, many popular shows and films are shot at real places – like grand houses, coastal towns, and museums – that you can actually go and explore yourself.
Ted Lasso
I am so excited for the new season of Ted Lasso! If you’re a fan like me and planning a trip to London, you absolutely have to check out The Prince’s Head pub in Richmond. It’s the one they use for all the exterior shots of Ted’s local, and it’s a proper sports pub – perfect for catching a game with a pint.
When you’re in Richmond, be sure to walk down Paved Court – it’s the street used for exterior shots of Ted Lasso’s home in the show! Although the inside scenes are filmed on a set, you can still experience the atmosphere. And don’t miss the official Ted Lasso store where you can find hoodies, mugs, and other souvenirs.
Bridgerton
If you’re hoping to see Lady Danbury’s home from Bridgerton, you’ll find it at the Holburne Museum. This museum was created by Sir Thomas William Holburne (1793–1874), who remained unmarried throughout his life.
The museum welcomes visitors to explore its collection of over 10,000 items. You’ll find everything from paintings and porcelain to small portraits and decorative snuff boxes. In addition to the regular exhibits, the museum also hosts rotating temporary shows.

Explore the world of Call the Midwife with a 90-minute guided tour of filming locations at Chatham Dockyard (available March through October). You’ll even get to pose in costume as a midwife! The tour includes famous spots like the Grosvenor Hotel and ‘Chummy’s Hill,’ where Nurse Noakes took her memorable bike riding lesson.

Game of Thrones
The Dark Hedges is a hugely popular spot for photos in Northern Ireland. These stunning trees were planted way back in the 1700s to create a grand entrance to Gracehill House.
Its current popularity stems from its appearance in season two of Game of Thrones, where it served as the Kingsroad, the path Arya Stark took when fleeing King’s Landing. While it’s open to the public for free, be aware that it’s a hotspot for Game of Thrones fans, making it challenging to get a clear photo!
Castle Ward in County Down is another popular filming location. It served as Winterfell in the show, along with Robb Stark’s camp and the setting for many battles between the Starks and Lannisters. The estate boasts beautiful grounds, walking trails, and a gift shop. You can find more information and book tickets on their website.
Gavin & Stacey
Barry Island, located in South Wales near the town of Barry, has been a beloved seaside destination since the 1870s. Now, visitors can enjoy beautiful beaches, a scenic railway, a lively funfair, and a wide range of activities like golf, paddleboarding, and horseback riding.
Visitor numbers jumped significantly in 2007 when the funny and heartwarming BBC show Gavin & Stacey, created by Ruth Jones and James Corden, first aired, and it still has a dedicated fanbase now.
The show famously begins with scenes of Barry Island, prominently featuring the bright blue Marco’s Café where Stacey worked. It’s also where Stacey and Gavin first confessed their feelings for each other. Nearby, just around the corner from Marco’s and close to the beach, you’ll find Nessa’s Slots (also called Island Leisure Amusement Arcade), where Nessa used to be employed, and Boofy’s fish and chip shop, which appeared in series three when Smithy was jokingly accused of becoming too Welsh.

Highclere Castle is a historic home with a rich past, and today it’s where the current Earl and Countess of Carnarvon live. It has even hosted royalty, including Queen Elizabeth II. Seeing it in person is breathtaking – it’s actually more impressive than how it looks in films and on TV! You can almost picture characters from Downton Abbey walking the grounds or enjoying afternoon tea there.
The Monk’s Garden offers beautiful greenery for most of the year. In summer, the Secret Garden bursts with vibrant colors, and the Wood of Goodwill showcases 38 different types of native British trees – including impressive oak trees – alongside cheerful snowdrops and daffodils in springtime.
Don’t forget to snap a photo in front of the castle’s main entrance – it’s a classic shot from the show! (Remember, photography isn’t allowed inside.) Then, enjoy the tour and see where many of the scenes were filmed. Be sure to check out the drawing room, where the Crawleys frequently gathered, the famous library with its hidden door, and the family’s bedrooms.
