BancaStato Integrates Regulated Crypto Trading Into Banking Services
BancaStato now allows customers to trade certain cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Solana directly through their existing online and mobile banking. They’ve partnered with Sygnum to add this service, integrating digital asset technology into their current banking system.
This new feature lets customers buy and sell cryptocurrencies by specifying the amount of crypto they want or the dollar value they want to spend. This means they can easily handle both their regular investments and digital currencies all in one safe place.
Sygnum handles the actual buying and selling of digital assets and provides secure storage. Instead of BancaStato holding these assets, they are kept safe within Sygnum’s secure, regulated custody system.

Sygnum’s partnership with BancaStato shows increasing interest from traditional financial institutions in secure, regulated digital asset services that work seamlessly with their current systems. Fritz W. Jost, Sygnum’s head of business-to-business operations, explained that BancaStato is the first bank using Avaloq’s software to offer customers crypto trading directly through its online banking platform, powered by Sygnum’s technology.
Using an API simplifies things by eliminating the need for a dedicated order management system. This allows the bank to streamline its work without changing how it manages risk or meets regulatory requirements.
Partnership Strengthens Switzerland’s Regulated Digital Asset Ecosystem
This new offering solidifies Switzerland’s place as a top hub for secure and compliant digital asset banking. We’re seeing more established banks team up with specialized companies rather than developing their own cryptocurrency systems.
According to Curzio De Gottardi, head of products and services at BancaStato, this new partnership will improve the bank’s investment options. It brings together standard financial products and secure digital assets all in a single place.
BancaStato has partnered with Sygnum, becoming the latest addition to its expanding network for banks. This network now includes over 25 financial institutions like PostFinance, Zuger Kantonalbank, Bordier & Cie, and SocGen FORGE, providing regulated digital asset services to millions of people in Switzerland.
Following its launch in Liechtenstein with a Crypto-Asset Service Provider license, Sygnum Europe can now offer regulated digital asset services throughout the European Union and European Economic Area, thanks to the new Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulations.
This new collaboration shows that traditional banks are increasingly offering cryptocurrency services by building them into their existing, regulated systems, instead of creating separate trading apps.
With more institutions showing interest, we could see digital assets become more widely used throughout traditional banks in Europe.
