Kenneth Branagh will lead the cast of Laird, a new drama coming to Paramount+. The series, set in the Scottish Highlands, is created by Jez Butterworth, along with his brother John-Henry Butterworth (who worked with him on The Agency) and Georgia Lee, known for her work on The 100.
Laird is an expansive family story centered on a Scottish man who fights against a powerful American billionaire attempting to take over the Scottish Highlands.
I’m so excited for this movie! From what I’ve read, it’s going to be full of drama – think family fights, long-held secrets coming out, and some really intense romances. And at the heart of it all is the Laird of Castle Drummoch, played by Branagh, who’s basically fighting tooth and nail to keep his family’s land safe from greedy people trying to take it over.
Before the show was released, Jane Wiseman, who leads original programming at Paramount+, explained that Laird fundamentally tells the story of a single person fighting back against overwhelming money and influence.
