Xbox has brought backward compatibility to PC, allowing players to enjoy select original Xbox games on their computers and handheld devices like the ROG Ally and Ally X for the first time. This initial release includes four classic titles, with plans to add more older Xbox games to PC in the future as part of an effort to preserve them.
Today, four popular games from the original Xbox – BLiNX: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live and Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fuzion Frenzy – are now available on PC. They’re also included with all Xbox Game Pass subscriptions, so both longtime fans and new players can enjoy them.
As a gamer, this is huge for me! Basically, if I already own these games digitally on my Xbox console, I’ll automatically get them on PC and handheld too – no need to buy them again. With Xbox Play Anywhere and Cloud Gaming, it means I can jump into the same game on my console, stream it in the cloud, or play it on my PC or handheld, all with one purchase. It’s awesome that they’re making it so easy to play wherever and however I want.
As a gamer, I’m really impressed with how Xbox isn’t just making these older games work on modern systems, they’re actually improving them! They’ve kept the original gameplay intact but given everything a visual boost. I can tweak the graphics to look amazing, with options for resolution scaling, smoothing, and different display modes. Plus, they’re even adding Achievements to the first four games, which so many of us have been asking for! To play, you need the Xbox app on PC and a fairly standard setup – Windows 11, 8GB of RAM, and a graphics card around the level of an Nvidia GTX 950 or AMD Radeon RX 550 should do the trick.
