Artificial intelligence is now actively being used on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) blockchain for real-world applications. Ayo Akinyele, Head of Engineering at RippleX, recently shared details about how these AI programs are working on the network and how they are utilizing XRP.

After seeing a surge in automated trading – over 1.4 million transactions were made solely by bots according to data from the official t54.ai dashboard – experts began taking a closer look at how the market is structured.

AI programs are now able to directly pay for services from each other using blockchain technology. Instead of relying on people and credit cards, they use a system called the x402 micropayment protocol with XRP and RLUSD to handle payments automatically.

What AI Agents Are Buying via XRP Ledger

As a researcher, I’ve found the XRP Ledger (XRPL) particularly well-suited for automated systems. Its transaction confirmations are incredibly fast – typically just 3 to 5 seconds – and the fees are so low and predictable that it’s easy for algorithms to manage their finances. In fact, we’re already seeing bots actively using XRP to make purchases.

  • API payments for trading data. Financial AI bots generate most of the network’s traffic, automatically purchasing market analytics and fresh price quotes to manage capital more efficiently.
  • Information services and parsing. Bots constantly pay for access to external knowledge bases, such as the ClawBank fintech protocol for finding people on LinkedIn or the AskSurf utility for deep web-page parsing.
  • Social media APIs. Algorithms independently finance their requests to social networks, extracting massive text datasets for mention monitoring and model training.
  • Inference requests, or renting “someone else’s brain.” AI agents instantly purchase additional computing power from other neural networks through the Heurist Inference Router, at prices starting from 0.003 RLUSD per micro-request, and this category is growing faster than any other.

Akinyele draws a parallel to the early days of cloud computing, when industry standards were just emerging and the value of digital wallets was relatively low. Despite this, the underlying technology is now starting to integrate with the mainstream economy, with approximately one hundred online stores already connecting to it.

Chandler Fang, the CEO of t54.ai, predicts that AI assistants will soon be able to find deals and purchase items like phone accessories for their users. To keep your money safe, the system will use Trustline, a security feature that automatically stops any suspicious transactions.

A unique market is developing for XRP where automated software creates its own demand, covers the costs, and completes the transactions – all without human intervention.
