The murder mystery series Murder in a Small Town is coming to UK streaming services. Originally debuting in Canada in 2024, it will be available in Britain almost two years after its first release.
Inspired by L.R. Wright’s The Alberg and Cassandra Mysteries novels, the series centers around Karl Alberg (played by Rossif Sutherland), a police officer from the city who moves to the quiet seaside town of Gibsons.
He soon finds himself investigating murders, and while doing so, develops a romantic connection with librarian Cassandra Lee, played by Kristin Kreuk.
The popular series, currently with two seasons, is coming to Netflix UK on August 1st. Make sure to add it to your list so you don’t miss it!
Ian Weir created Murder in a Small Town, featuring Mya Lowe, Aaron Douglas, Fritzy-Klevans Destine, and Savonna Spracklin. Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden joins the cast in the second season.

The first season of the show received a 70% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 10 reviews. Variety magazine described it as pleasantly predictable but with a bit of an interesting twist, and a show that will appeal to a wide audience.
According to Decider, Murder In A Small Town successfully blends the mystery of a murder investigation with a romantic storyline. This is largely due to the strong connection between the two lead actors, Sutherland and Kreuk.
Even though the film’s message is fairly straightforward, it’s still enjoyable to watch these actors on screen. And that, in itself, is a success.
According to Paste Magazine, the show is enjoyable with a good cast and interesting relationships between the detective and the people being investigated, but it doesn’t go beyond being a typical TV mystery series.
Pajiba described the show as less of a thrilling mystery and more gentle and mild. They said it’s a murder story intentionally designed to be as non-disturbing as possible – almost comforting, even with its subject matter.
