In this film, Godzilla was actually stronger than Mechagodzilla and would have won on his own, but humans intervened. They equipped Mechagodzilla with a special weapon – a harpoon – that pierced Godzilla’s secondary brain, paralyzing him.
The battle suddenly shifted in Mechagodzilla’s favor, giving him a clear advantage. However, he struggled against Monster X after it transformed into Keizer Ghidorah. While Godzilla had previously won against Monster X, Keizer Ghidorah proved to be far more powerful. This was evident when Godzilla lost a beam battle, something that rarely happens in Godzilla films.
When Godzilla lost the energy beam battle to Keizer Ghidorah, things quickly turned bad. Ghidorah relentlessly attacked the fallen Godzilla with more blasts and used gravity beams to hold him helplessly in the air, effectively torturing him. Godzilla was completely overwhelmed, but a surge of energy from one of the human characters gave him a much-needed boost. With this newfound strength, Godzilla was able to defeat Keizer Ghidorah surprisingly easily, finishing the fight by blasting him back into space with his atomic breath in a spectacular comeback.
2. Godzilla Vs. SpaceGodzilla
One of the toughest fights Godzilla ever had was against SpaceGodzilla in the second-to-last film of the Heisei series, Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla. SpaceGodzilla was incredibly powerful and dangerous, with amazing strength, energy blasts, and even telekinesis. He proved to be a very well-rounded opponent, and Godzilla couldn’t do anything when SpaceGodzilla captured Baby Godzilla.
SpaceGodzilla dominated their rematch with Godzilla until Godzilla teamed up with Mogeura. Mogeura destroyed the crystals fueling SpaceGodzilla’s power, weakening him enough for Godzilla to finally win. Considering how difficult SpaceGodzilla was to defeat, he’s one of Godzilla’s most powerful adversaries, ranking alongside villains like Destoroyah and King Ghidorah.
1. Godzilla Vs. Gigan
The film Godzilla vs. Gigan was a first for the franchise, pairing Godzilla and Anguirus against Ghidorah and the debuting Gigan. Gigan quickly made an impact, using the saw on his belly and hook-like claws to inflict a severe beating on Godzilla. Despite being made during a period when Godzilla films were generally aimed at younger audiences, Godzilla vs. Gigan didn’t hold back on the action. Gigan famously sliced Godzilla, becoming the first monster ever to draw blood from the King of the Monsters.
Godzilla took a brutal beating – he was slashed, punched, slammed, and kicked repeatedly. But even after all that pain, he managed to get back on his feet! With Anguirus by his side, Godzilla fought off both Gigan and Ghidorah.
