The trailer for Avengers: Doomsday came out on Monday, July 20th, and it appears to give a final appearance to the actors who played the X-Men in the early 2000s films. Marvel is planning to recast its mutant characters, and recent reports suggest Adam Driver might be considered for the role of Magneto.
It’s unclear if the Star Wars actor is being considered to play Magneto – a role previously held by Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender – or if he’ll be taking on other villainous characters like Mr. Sinister or William Stryker, but Kevin Feige has definitely expressed interest in him.
The head of Marvel Studios recently discussed his interest in Adam Driver during an interview for the Spider-Man: Brand New Day press event. He revealed that he’s made several attempts to cast Driver in a Marvel project, but has been turned down each time.
We’ve always been interested in having [Driver] join the project,” Feige explained. “But it’s become a bit of a running joke – we video chat with him, and then he declines. It’s something that’s happened for a while now.”
He didn’t explain why Ryan Driver rejected his offer, but he mentioned that Driver is consistently polite and generally honest about his thoughts during their conversations.
