Look, I’ve always been a huge Ed Harris fan – the guy consistently chooses such interesting, complex characters. But honestly? I was really disappointed with his part in the latest season of Taylor Sheridan’s “Dutton Ranch.” It just didn’t feel like a role that allowed him to really shine, you know? It wasn’t the meaty, compelling performance I’ve come to expect from him.
Four-time Oscar nominee Jim Carrey, famous for films like “The Truman Show” and “Apollo 13,” recently shared that he almost quit the new series “Dutton Ranch” during its first season. “Get me the f— out of here,” Harris, 75, recalled telling his team.

Actor Harris, currently promoting his comedy film “The Dink,” plays Dr. Everett McKinney on “Dutton Ranch” alongside Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, both known from “Yellowstone.” He stated on Monday that he felt he hadn’t been utilized as expected on the show and that he’d been given a misleading impression about his role.
Before filming began on the first season of “Dutton Ranch,” Harris discussed the show and his character with the creative team, who assured him he would be a central figure.
He explained that things weren’t actually like people thought, and he had already spoken to the producers about feeling like he didn’t have enough to do and wasn’t making a significant impact.

Kevin Harris expressed frustration that a scene of his character singing was removed during editing – something he found particularly upsetting. However, producers have assured him his role will be more developed in the second season, which was renewed in June and starts filming in February.
Harris described his time on “Yellowstone” (as Dutton Ranch) as somewhat disappointing, explaining that he didn’t feel his character had a significant enough role in the show compared to his expectations.
“Dutton Ranch” stars Kelly Reilly as Beth Dutton and Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler, following them as they leave Montana for South Texas to start over. The show picks up roughly a year after the finale of “Yellowstone” in December 2024, and does not feature Kevin Costner.
