With so many classic films being revisited, even one of the most beloved Westerns hasn’t been spared. The 1960 movie was already remade in 2016, and now it’s being adapted for television.
A remake of the classic Western film The Magnificent Seven is now in production as an eight-episode series. Matt Dillon will star as Chris Adams, a role famously played by Yul Brynner.

He stars as Chris, the leader of seven gunslingers hired to defend peaceful villagers from a ruthless land baron who wants to steal their property. Chris is a calm and collected man who doesn’t say much but communicates volumes with his intense stare. He has no tolerance for dishonesty or mistreatment and lives by a strong, yet understated, code of justice and self-control.
I’m so excited about the cast they’ve assembled! Matt Dillon is going to play Chris Adams, and Will Patton will be Cyrus T. Clemons. Michael Ealy is taking on the role of Vin Tanner, and Danny Pino is Santiago “Santi” Vega. Plus, Joanne Froggatt will be Harriet Talbot and Amy Forsyth is Katie “Deadeye” Dalton. It’s shaping up to be an amazing group of actors!
With production underway in Calgary, the show welcomed several new cast members. Joshua Close, known for his work on Wayward and Fargo, Ken Yamamura (The Wolverine, Tetris), Michael Rubenfeld (Lucky Number Slevin), and Joel Nankervis (Your Fault: London) all joined the main cast.
I’m so excited about the cast! Callum Close is going to be amazing as Skelton – he’s apparently this really cool, clever character who always has a plan. Then there’s Hiroki Yamamura as Kenji, described as warm and super inquisitive, which I think will be lovely. Plus, Daniel Rubenfeld is playing Wick Kagan, an inventor like something out of Da Vinci’s workshop! And finally, we have Jack Nankervis as Jeb Campbell, who sounds like a bundle of energy – quick-witted and a little bit chaotic, which should be hilarious.
