Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball series features many incredibly strong characters, but even they sometimes need help. The technique of fusion—where two or more fighters combine their power to become a single, stronger warrior—became well-known during the Buu Saga in Dragon Ball Z.
The technique of Fusion has become incredibly powerful throughout the Dragon Ball series and is now a key part of the Z-Fighters’ fighting style. It’s always thrilling to see fused characters battle, as they consistently deliver impressive strength. Some fusions have become especially well-known, representing some of the strongest warriors in the entire franchise.
Aka’s Fused Fury Still Falls Short Against Basic Transformations
The chapter titled Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return!! isn’t very well-known, but it does have some fun battles. It introduces Tarble, Vegeta’s younger brother, and two minor villains from Frieza’s army, Abo and Kado. Since Abo and Kado aren’t strong individually, they combine into a single fighter named Aka.
Aka and Gotenks playfully battle, but Goku steps in to win when his Kamehameha wave proves stronger than Aka’s powerful attack. Despite looking scary, Aka is easily defeated by Goku even without transforming beyond Super Saiyan, and he has trouble fighting Super Saiyan Gotenks as well – showing that his strength isn’t actually very high.
Saonel & Pirina Are The Fused Culmination Of Universe 6’s Namekian
Fusion is a key part of Namekian culture. Namekians can permanently merge with each other, where the less powerful individual is absorbed into the stronger one. Piccolo demonstrates this ability by fusing with Nail and later with Kami. In Dragon Ball Super‘s Tournament of Power, two Namekians from Universe 6, Saonel and Pirina, explain they have repeatedly fused with all other Namekians in their universe, ultimately becoming the only ones remaining.
This demonstrates a significant strength that made them notable competitors in the Tournament of Power. Fittingly, Gohan and Piccolo quickly defeated them, with Piccolo eliminating both Namekians using his Special Beam Cannon. They might have had a better chance if they had fused to become a single, more powerful warrior.
Gotenks’ Early Fused Accomplishments Have Gotten Rustier Over Time
Gotenks was one of the earliest and most impressive fusions in Dragon Ball Z, showcasing the incredible potential of this technique. When Goten and Trunks combine their Saiyan power, they reach the rare Super Saiyan 3 level. For a time, it even appeared that Gotenks might be Earth’s only hope against Buu.
Gotenks stands out with a uniquely imaginative set of fighting techniques, featuring over-the-top and risky moves like his Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack. However, both Goten and Trunks – and therefore Gotenks – have become much weaker in Dragon Ball Super. They now struggle to even combine their power successfully.
Majuub Helps Uub Realize His Full Potential
Uub, the kind-hearted human reborn from Kid Buu, is often considered a wasted character in the Dragon Ball series. He had a promising introduction during the 28th World Tournament in Dragon Ball Z, but his potential wasn’t fully realized until Dragon Ball GT. That series finally gave Uub a significant role, culminating in an unexpected fusion with Baby Vegeta. When Good Buu merges with Uub, he creates Majuub – a truly unique and powerful being.
Majuub appears very similar to Uub, with the main changes being his clothing. He does become much more powerful, inheriting some of Buu’s magical abilities – like a Kamehameha that can turn opponents into candy! Although Majuub doesn’t win any fights on his own in Dragon Ball GT, he plays an important supporting role against major villains such as Golden Great Ape Baby Vegeta, Super 17, and Syn Shenron.
Super 17 Is The Malevolent Union Of Two Intense Androids
The idea of Androids combining first appeared in Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13!, where Android 13 absorbed the components of Androids 14 and 15 to become more powerful. Dragon Ball GT later featured Super 17, formed when Android 17 merged with Hell Fighter 17. While Super 17 is considered one of the least favorite villains in GT,
I watched as Super 17 surprisingly held his own against the incredibly powerful Super Saiyan 4 Goku, Vegeta, and even Majuub – that really showed how strong he was. What made him even more dangerous was his ability to absorb energy and turn it into raw power. He actually got stronger when Goku fired his 10x Kamehameha at him! Ultimately, though, Goku managed to defeat the intimidating Android with a powerful Dragon Fist.
Universe 3’s Anilaza Abuses Fusion Mechanics To Become A Gigantic Juggernaut
In the Tournament of Power, fusing fighters is risky because if the fused warrior loses, it counts as multiple team members being eliminated at once. However, Universe 3 isn’t afraid to take that chance. They first combine Borareta, Koitsukai, and Pancéa into Koicéareta, who then fuses with Paparoni to create Anilaza. Anilaza is a massive, shapeless Android that bears a slight resemblance to the little-known villain Hatchiyack.
Anilaza causes significant destruction in the Tournament of Power, impressively holding his own against a combined assault from Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Vegeta, Golden Frieza, Gohan, and Android 17. While incredibly powerful, Anilaza becomes much more vulnerable once fighters discover his weakness: an energy reactor located on his forehead.
Universe 6’s Kefla Exudes Confidence & Legendary Super Saiyan Strength
Kale and Caulifla from Universe 6 are both strong and interesting fighters on their own. When the Tournament of Power gets intense, they fuse using the Potara earrings to become Kefla. Kefla combines Kale’s incredible Legendary Super Saiyan strength with Caulifla’s love of battle. Even without transforming beyond a standard Super Saiyan, Kefla manages to overpower Goku.
Kefla is incredibly powerful, able to fight on par with Goku even in his God form, Super Saiyan Blue, and withstand his intense Kaio-Ken boost. This forces Goku to start unlocking a new level called Ultra Instinct Sign just to compete with her when she’s a Super Saiyan 2. He eventually wins by using clever tactics during the battle. Because Kefla could already fight so well against early forms of Ultra Instinct, it’s possible she would be nearly unbeatable if she transformed further into a Super Saiyan 3 or even beyond.
Shallet Is An Ancient Saiyan With The Power Of Gods On His Side
Shallet is a powerful character created from the merging of two ancient Saiyan twins, Shallot and Giblet, first appearing in the mobile game Dragon Ball Legends. Though not officially part of the main Dragon Ball storyline, these characters were designed by Akira Toriyama himself and have been made into collectible figures. Shallot has even been added to the video game Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO. What makes Shallet unique is that he’s the only Super Saiyan God fusion to appear in any Dragon Ball media.
Shallet’s biggest challenge in Dragon Ball Legends has been facing Future Zamasu and Goku Black. However, with the strength of a Super Saiyan God Ancient Saiyan, he’s incredibly powerful and likely surpasses Kefla, who is limited to Super Saiyan 2. It seems like Shallet is poised for even greater power and success in the future.
Gogeta Is Goku & Vegeta’s Metamoran Fusion Powerhouse
Goku and Vegeta are incredibly powerful characters in the Dragon Ball series, so when they fuse together, the result is exceptionally strong. This fusion, known as Gogeta, appears as a major turning point in both Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn and Dragon Ball Super: Broly, and in each movie, he quickly defeats his opponents. His attacks are incredibly powerful and devastating.
Gogeta Blue effortlessly breaks through dimensions while fighting Broly. He also easily overpowers Omega Shenron from Dragon Ball GT, even though his attempt wasn’t a complete victory. While Gogeta can be a bit overconfident, he’s undeniably powerful and can back up his attitude with incredible strength.
Vegito Represents Vegeta & Goku’s Peak Fusion Power
I’ve seen a lot of discussion about who’s stronger, Gogeta or Vegito, but it seems like the Dragon Ball series suggests Potara fusions – like Vegito – are naturally more powerful. The way it works, you don’t even need to be equally strong before fusing. I remember when Vegito first appeared, facing off against Super Buu – he completely dominated the fight, even after Buu turned himself into candy! It was a huge turning point in that arc.
I remember when Vegito showed up again during the ‘Future’ Trunks arc of Dragon Ball Super. It was awesome seeing him fight Fused Zamasu! He even powered up to Super Saiyan Blue and finished things off with a powerful Final Kamehameha. It’s clear Goku and Vegeta have gotten much stronger since we last saw Vegito, and I’m really hoping that means he’ll be back to help with Black Frieza and become even more powerful.
