LoveSac made the TopMob Cup viewing space in New York feel like a cozy, retro basement hangout by filling it with their comfortable, oversized chairs.
Throughout the recent World Cup – which concluded this past weekend with Spain’s victory – beanbag chairs offered fans comfortable spots to share both their disappointments and cheers.
The Sac isn’t a typical beanbag chair, despite appearances. Instead of beans, the first one—made in 1995 by Shawn Nelson from old camping mattress pieces—was filled with foam. This is why Sacs keep their form much better than traditional beanbags which tend to flatten over time.
While still in college, Nelson started selling Sacs out of his van at campus events. He officially registered the company name in 1998 for just $25, and remarkably, he secured a large order – 12,000 units – from a national teen retailer even before setting up production. The first retail store opened in 2001, and the popular Sactionals sofa was introduced in 2006.
Today’s Sacs are made with a durable foam material called Durafoam. But they still evoke a strong sense of nostalgia – memories of college dorms, basement hangouts, and summer gaming sessions with friends. A collection of Sacs perfectly fits a comfortable, laid-back space where people like to relax and stay awhile.
