Fans of historical dramas will be pleased to know that Poldark, starring Aidan Turner (known from Rivals) and Eleanor Tomlinson (The Forsytes), is now available on a new streaming service in the UK. The series, adapted from Winston Graham’s novels, tells the story of Captain Ross Poldark, a British soldier who comes back to Cornwall after fighting in the American Revolutionary War. He discovers his estate is in disrepair and the woman he loves is engaged to his cousin.
Created by Debbie Horsfield, the writer behind the recent series The Forsytes, Poldark features Tomlinson as Demelza Carne, Ross’s servant. She plays a key role in helping him restore his wealth and eventually becomes his wife.
I’m so excited! Poldark, which originally aired on BBC One from 2015 to 2019, is now available to stream on Disney+ in the UK. I can finally rewatch it whenever I want!
The TV series Poldark has received very positive reviews, particularly for its final season, which aired in the summer of 2019. Rotten Tomatoes, a review website, gave it a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating based on 21 critic reviews, with an overall score of 86%.
The show’s final season has been well-received for its emotional storylines, even if some found them a bit unrealistic. The Guardian called Poldark “pretty great television,” but also commented that the season tried to do too much.

Heida Reed plays Elizabeth Poldark, Kyle Soller is Francis Poldark, and Jack Farthing plays George Warleggan, the main character’s rival, completing the main cast of the series.
