Featuring actors known from popular soap operas, fantasy films, and respected dramas, The Fortune is a four-part thriller about Amanda Blakefield. Her life is turned upside down when she unexpectedly inherits a large fortune and a grand estate from a man named Martin Worrall, whom she’s never known.
Amanda starts investigating why a stranger, Martin, left her something in his will. This leads her to revisit difficult parts of her past, like her father’s mysterious disappearance and her mother Linda’s struggles with memory loss. The situation gets even more complicated when Martin’s family tries to convince her to give up the inheritance.
Eleanor Tomlinson, famous for her role as Demelza in Poldark, as well as appearances in Jack the Giant Slayer and The Outlaws, stars as Amanda in this story. At the beginning of the drama, Amanda co-owns a cafe with her best friend Sandy and husband Jimmy, but everything changes when she unexpectedly receives an inheritance.
Eleanor explained to New that Amanda co-owns and works at a café with her close friends, Sandy and Jimmy. They lead busy lives, but Eleanor appreciated how normal they seemed. Everything changes when Amanda receives an unexpected visit from a lawyer who reveals she’s inherited something in a will – a completely strange situation, according to Eleanor.
Danielle Walters plays Sandy, and viewers might remember her from roles in shows like EastEnders (as DC Barton), Top Boy, and Gavin and Stacey. Matthew Lewis plays Amanda’s husband, Jimmy. He’s best known for playing Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter films, but recently appeared in Murder Before Evensong on Channel 5.

Paula Wilcox plays Linda, Amanda’s mother, who is living in a care home and battling dementia. This makes Amanda’s quest to uncover the truth more difficult, as she tries to reconstruct hazy memories. Wilcox is a familiar face, known for her role as Elaine Jones on Coronation Street and for starring in the classic comedy Man About the House.
Eleanor praised Paula’s acting, saying she was captivating to watch. They collaborated closely to create dialogue that was both beautiful and emotionally impactful.
Matthew Lewis was also excited to work with Callum Woodhouse again on this project. Woodhouse plays Martin’s son, and the two actors had previously collaborated on the series All Creatures Great and Small.
Matthew reminisced about how they used to watch football together. When he got the job offer, Callum was the first person he called to get his opinion on the director, Andy De Emmony. Callum had a good feeling about it. While Matthew wished they’d had more than one scene, he said it was a lot of fun, especially since it was Callum’s first time playing a TV villain, and he was really getting into the role.
Matthew revealed that a well-known actor, Denis Lawson – famous for playing Wedge Antilles in the original Star Wars films – was a key reason he joined the drama. He was also drawn to the other actors involved, like Eleanor Tomlinson and Callum Woodhouse, whom he’d previously worked with on All Creatures Great and Small. As a big Star Wars fan growing up, Matthew said working with Lawson was a special bonus.
In the new mystery drama, ‘The Fortune,’ Denis Lawson stars as Martin Worrall, whose death sets the story in motion. The cast also includes James Younger as the son of Amanda and Jimmy, and Stephen Tompkinson as Boots, a man employed by the Worralls to find Amanda and stop her from claiming an inheritance. However, the investigation quickly reveals that the stakes are much higher than just money. ‘The Fortune’ premieres this Tuesday, June 2nd, at 9pm on Channel 5.
