If you haven’t tried the mobile game Monopoly GO!, you’re in for a treat – it’s constantly improving! And now, The Simpsons fans have even more reason to play, as a special collaboration event has just launched in the game.
It’s been 13 years since fans could play a mobile game completely dedicated to The Simpsons, and they’re making a big comeback! From June 3rd to July 29th, The Simpsons isn’t just making a quick appearance in Monopoly GO! – they’re taking over the entire game. Expect special story-based episodes, collectible items, and even a brand-new animated short featuring the hilarious rivalry between Mr. Burns and Mr. Monopoly. The short was created by the team behind The Simpsons and stars the voices of Will Ferrell and Harry Shearer.
I recently had the chance to talk with Joe Zanetti, VP of Operations at Scopely and the leader of the team behind Monopoly GO!. He shared insights into collaborating with the creators of The Simpsons and gave a preview of what players can look forward to in the upcoming event.
Bringing The Simpsons To Monopoly GO!
Monopoly GO! often features fun collaborations with popular franchises such as Star Wars, Marvel, and Hello Kitty. I spoke with Joe Zanetti about how they came up with the idea for a Simpsons event. Both Monopoly GO! and The Simpsons are known for their humor, making them a perfect match. As Zanetti explained, “We quickly realized there were a lot of exciting possibilities when we started discussing it.”
With exciting gameplay like bank heists and the ability to shut down opponents, plus tons of fun collectibles, Monopoly GO! offers many opportunities to include jokes and hidden references to The Simpsons.
According to Zanetti, the team behind The Simpsons was enthusiastic about the collaboration and encouraged a lot of detail. They specifically asked for references to obscure characters, not just the main family, which led to a wider range of cosmetic options. Zanetti mentioned they dug deep into the show’s history, including nods to the monorail and the character Mr. Sparkle, adding a lot of fun Easter eggs for fans to discover.
This marks the first time Monopoly GO! has collaborated with the writers of The Simpsons, maintaining open communication throughout the process. They regularly exchanged ideas, even discussing details like the jokes and Chance cards to ensure everything was as funny and engaging as possible. They’d ask things like, ‘How can we turn this into a funnier meme?’
Fans Of The Simpsons Who Are New To Monopoly GO! Will Love It As Much As Long-Time Players
Monopoly GO! is already a really enjoyable game – I’ve been playing it for a while now – and this collaboration with The Simpsons is going to add a fantastic level of playful chaos. According to Zanetti, the crossover features completely immersive experiences, like flipping the board into a Simpsons scene. There are also quick, surprising events – landing on Free Parking might suddenly transport you to the Nuclear Power Plant where you interact with Homer. It feels like briefly stepping into a Simpsons game before returning to the regular Monopoly gameplay.
Every two weeks, the game will release new, short episodes featuring original stories inspired by The Simpsons. These episodes will cover events like a nuclear meltdown caused by Homer or a mystery at Krustyland. Each one will include linked game boards, collectible sticker sets, special mini-games, and brief animated clips.
Zanetti explained that the show will feature strong opening moments that blend jokes with mini-games and character-focused storylines. Each character – Homer, Marge, Lisa, and Bart – will have their own dedicated arc, almost like individual chapters within the season.
Don’t Worry Monopoly GO! Fans, The Simpsons Won’t Change The Game Too Much
Zanetti explained that this collaboration was enjoyable because they weren’t focused on maintaining the usual rules and characteristics of each property. Instead, they asked themselves, “How can we create the most interesting and chaotic combination?” Hearing this, and knowing The Simpsons takeover will significantly change the game board, I wanted to confirm that experienced Monopoly GO! players wouldn’t find the changes too jarring.
We’re including lighthearted, playful artistic touches, but we’re not fundamentally changing how the game works. We’re adding new content, rather than completely reworking our existing popular minigames. This means players who enjoy Monopoly GO! should find familiar elements in The Simpsons game and won’t feel like everything has been drastically altered.
Chibi Simpsons Characters In Monopoly GO! Are Adorable
When designing the Simpsons characters for Monopoly GO!, the development teams focused on creating a look that blended well with both franchises and was incredibly cute. According to designer Zanetti, they quickly agreed on a chibi style – a super-deformed, adorable aesthetic – that everyone loved so much, they wanted to make plush toys of all the characters. It was a design direction both teams instantly embraced.
While there aren’t any plans for physical merchandise based on that design yet, I’d definitely be a buyer! Luckily, within the Monopoly GO! game, players will still have lots of collectibles featuring those characters and that art style.
The unique art style extends beyond the characters. As Zanetti explained, the team was focused on reimagining iconic locations like the Simpsons’ house and the Nuclear Power Plant with a luxurious, over-the-top feel. He believes fans will especially enjoy seeing these familiar landmarks transformed into extravagant, billionaire-style versions of themselves, while still retaining the core spirit of The Simpsons.
At the end of the interview, I asked Joe Zanetti what he wanted people to take away from the event. He emphasized that both teams put a lot of heart into making it fun, playful, and a little bit crazy.
From June 3rd to July 29th, 2026, players can enjoy a special collaboration between The Simpsons and Monopoly GO!
