Doctor Who boss Russell T Davies gives update about the BBC show after recent ‘delay’ rumours

Russell T Davies, the showrunner for Doctor Who, has responded to rumors that the Christmas special has been delayed until Easter.

The most recent episode aired on May 31st of last year. In it, Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor transformed into a new, currently unnamed character portrayed by Billie Piper, who is known for her role as Rose Tyler.

A Christmas special was announced last October, with Russell T Davies writing it, but there haven’t been any updates since.

This sparked rumors of a delay until after Easter, and the BBC’s refusal to address them only fueled fans’ concerns.

But now Davies has shared a new update, which is that an actual update will be arriving this month.

Davies announced on BBC Radio 2 that an announcement is coming soon. He explained that the BBC’s approval process is very slow – like something from the age of dinosaurs – because 57 people need to approve every word.

I expect a press release to be issued within a couple of weeks, but I’m already sensing things are starting to stall.

Even though we don’t know what’s being announced, the delay in starting filming for the Christmas special isn’t necessarily something to worry about.

Let me tell you, making the 2016 Christmas special, ‘The Return of Doctor Mysterio,’ was a real rush! They didn’t even start filming until early September, which meant the special effects team and editors had just a few months to get everything polished and ready for Christmas. It was pretty intense!
