We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Echo, a cherished member of the Heartstopper cast.
The official Instagram account for Heartstopper announced the passing of Echo, the dog who played Nick’s dog, Nellie, with a touching photo. The post simply read, “Dear Echo, you were absolutely perfect.”
Echo played Nellie in several scenes with Nick and Charlie, and became a beloved part of their relationship.

Viewers filled the comments with messages of appreciation, and many expressed hope that Echo would be honored with a tribute in the credits of the Heartstopper movie, Heartstopper Forever.
One fan asked if the game would still include a tribute to loved ones in the credits, and many other heartfelt messages of remembrance were shared.

Fans are mourning the loss of Echo, with many expressing their sadness online. One fan wrote, ‘We’ll miss you so much, Echo, and thank you for playing Nellie so wonderfully.’ Another said she was the perfect Nellie and will be greatly missed. So far, those who worked with her on the show haven’t made a public statement.
Fans are saddened by the news, which comes just before the release of Heartstopper Forever on July 17th. This movie concludes the series, and will show Nick and Charlie navigating the challenges of a long-distance relationship as their love is tested.
Nick and Charlie are very close, but their relationship is tested as Nick gets ready for college and Charlie becomes more independent at school. They start to feel the strain of being in a long-distance relationship.
“Doubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet.”

As this goes on, their friends are also dealing with the joys and difficulties of relationships and growing up, facing the mixed emotions that come with change and letting go. It makes you wonder – can those first, intense feelings of love actually last a lifetime?
I was reading an interview with Alice Oseman, the creator of Heartstopper, and she talked about what’s next for Nick and Charlie. Apparently, the big thing they’re dealing with is Nick going off to university! That means they’re going to be a long-distance couple, which is a really relatable challenge for a lot of people, and I’m already bracing myself for the drama!

Okay, so this is a really big deal for Nick and me. We’re both kinda messed up about everything that’s happening. I’m worried about who I am if we’re not together, and Charlie’s scared of being left behind. We’ve got a lot to figure out, both as a couple and just… as people, you know?
The film will delve into themes of time, memory, love, and loss, mirroring the natural cycles of the seasons and the constant flow of endings and new beginnings. At its heart, like the series Heartstopper, it will celebrate the simple beauty and magic found in everyday life.
Heartstopper Forever will debut Friday 17 July. Season 1-3 are available to stream now on Netflix.
