With Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, the popular franchise returned to movie theaters after a six-and-a-half-year break. However, audiences haven’t been rushing to see it in large numbers.
The movie, which continues the story from the Disney+ TV series, has earned a respectable $246.6 million globally. However, it unfortunately set a new low for any Star Wars film during its second weekend in theaters.
According to Box Office Mojo, the film earned $25 million in the US between May 29th and 31st. This was a 69.4% decrease from its opening week’s earnings.

This is the largest second-weekend drop in ticket sales for any Star Wars movie ever. Previously, The Last Jedi had the biggest drop, falling 67.5% during a time of significant debate (according to Box Office Mojo).
When it first came out, The Last Jedi earned twice as much as The Mandalorian and Grogu did, eventually bringing in over $1.3 billion worldwide. While The Last Jedi cost between $343 and $414 million to make, the new film had a more modest budget of $165 million.

Despite mixed reviews, the film has achieved a positive milestone as the highest-rated Disney Star Wars movie by audiences on the site. Currently, 88% of viewers have given it a positive rating, which is just a bit higher than Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

A review in Digital Spy described The Mandalorian and Grogu as potentially the least impactful Star Wars film, even suggesting that being unremarkable feels like a bigger disappointment than being outright bad.
It seems like the general public also feels like the film is inconsequential, given the drop-off.
