Tip Toe cast: David Morrissey, Alan Cumming and more – the stars of Russell T Davies’ new drama

After recently finishing the newest season of Doctor Who, Russell T Davies returns with a new Channel 4 drama. Following the success of It’s a Sin, his latest project is Tip Toe, a suspenseful thriller taking place in the suburbs of Manchester.

This five-episode show centers on Leo, who runs a bar in the city’s gay district. He and his neighbor, Clive, have been next-door neighbors for around 15 years, but new challenges and changes in their lives create friction between them.

This gripping suburban thriller, according to Channel 4, explores how quickly disagreements can escalate into deadly conflict, turning ordinary neighbors into bitter enemies. It questions our assumptions about safety and how easily words can fuel hatred.

I’m so excited for this new British drama – it’s been getting a ton of buzz! It’s got an amazing cast, and I wanted to share everything I’ve found out about who’s in it before the first episode airs tonight at 9pm. I’ve been waiting for this for ages!

David Morrissey as Clive Goss

Clive Goss is an electrician who is currently struggling financially and feels left out of society. He’s also going through a difficult time in his marriage.

He’s hired to do some repairs at Leo’s bar, but that’s where problems start. The actor playing Clive explains that Clive has become very embittered by events around him, and he directs his frustration towards his neighbor.

What to Read Next

David Morrissey is known for his work in many TV shows. Some of his most popular roles include appearances in State of Play, Red Riding, The Field of Blood, and The Missing.

He recently played DCS Ian St Clair in the popular BBC crime drama Sherwood, and appeared alongside Eve Myles in ITV’s Gone. He’s also gained international recognition for his role as The Governor in The Walking Dead.

Alan Cumming as Leo Struthers

Leo Struthers owns Spit and Polish, a gay bar on Canal Street, and is facing tough times. He’s trying to keep his business from failing, and he’s also recently gone through a breakup. According to the actor who plays him, Leo is feeling a bit directionless.

Leo is known for being a kind person, but his good nature is put to the test when he unexpectedly reconnects with Clive. Despite having little contact for fourteen years, a single event throws them into a surprisingly close, and ultimately terrible, experience.

Alan Cumming is a well-known actor with roles in several popular franchises, like James Bond, X-Men, and Spy Kids. More recently, he acted with Brian Cox in the drama Glenrothan.

Alan Cumming is well-known for his television work, particularly his recurring role as Eli Gold in both The Good Wife and its spin-off, The Good Fight. He’s also ventured into reality television, having hosted the American adaptation of The Traitors.

Denise Welch as Diane

Diane is a character who connects with Clive because they both feel lonely. While Clive is married, author Welch emphasizes that Diane is self-aware and understands what she wants and needs.

The actor emphasized the importance of portraying women as still being desirable and vibrant, noting that society often focuses on older women as grandmothers and overlooks their continued sexuality. They also praised Morrissey’s performance, calling it ‘amazing’.

Denise Welch is well-known for her work in British television, particularly in soap operas like Coronation Street, Waterloo Road, and Hollyoaks. She’s also been a regular panelist on Loose Women since 2000 and was the winner of Celebrity Big Brother in 2012.

Gabriel Clark as Mikey

Mikey works at Spit and Polish and is known for being playful and flirtatious, according to Clark. He also has an OnlyFans account and tends to get into trouble, seemingly without worrying about the repercussions of his actions.

Besides his current work, Gabriel Clark is known for his role as Oliver Morgan on the Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks, which he played for three years until 2023. He also appeared in a single episode of the ITV soap Coronation Street in 2019.

Paul Rhys as Melba

I’ve been hearing a lot about Melba lately! She’s Leo’s really close friend – apparently, she’s a regular at Spit and Polish. Rhys has described her as a total genius, someone who’s incredibly smart and could be really successful, but also super defiant and independent. She sounds fascinating!

Paul Rhys is a Welsh actor who has appeared in several films. He’s worked with director Emerald Fennell on both Saltburn and Wuthering Heights, and also starred in Men Up, a film produced by Davies.

Shakeel Kimotho as Hanna

Hanna is a coworker at Spit and Polish. Kimotho describes them as a cheerful and outgoing member of the trans community who enjoys having fun and isn’t afraid to be a little mischievous. They’re known for their playful and silly personality.

Shakeel Kimotho is a relatively new face, with Tip Toe being their first credited role according to IMDb. Hopefully, they’ll stand out with their performance as the lively character, Hanna.

Iz Hesketh as Zee

Zee is one of the staff members at Spit and Polish. She’s a smart and confident young transgender woman who isn’t afraid to speak her mind and is very caring towards others.

Iz Hesketh has also appeared in a few other shows. She played Kitty Draper in Hollyoaks in 2024, and also had a role in Sally Wainwright’s action series Renegade Nell that same year.

Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo as Judy

Judy is a bartender at a lively bar on Canal Street, working with Leo, Zee, Mikey, and Hanna. She’s described as having a rebellious, “punk rock” style, and isn’t afraid to defend herself – or others – in a confrontation.

Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo is known for their role as Ritchie Santiago in the Netflix series Wednesday, appearing in 14 episodes. They’ve also been in the series Devs as Angela, and made an appearance in Top Boy in 2023.

Tip Toe premieres at 9pm on Channel 4.
