Chris Pratt’s Hardcore $164M Western Thriller Remake Sets Free Streaming Release Next Week

Chris Pratt’s epic Western thriller is about to arrive on streaming.

Chris Pratt has been a professional actor for more than 25 years. He first became well-known in the early part of his career with TV series like Everwood, The O.C., and Parks & Recreation. But his career really took off when he played Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord, in Guardians of the Galaxy. He continued to play Quill in Marvel movies while also establishing himself as a leading movie star in other films.

Chris Pratt has quickly become one of Hollywood’s busiest actors, known for roles like Owen Grady in the Jurassic World films, and voice work in animated hits like Mario and Garfield. He first gained widespread attention after Guardians of the Galaxy and then starred in a gritty remake of a classic Western, which earned $164 million worldwide. As a film buff, I’m excited to share that the 2016 version of The Magnificent Seven is hitting Pluto TV on June 1st, 2026! It’s a really fun, PG-13 Western – a remake of the classic 1960 film with legends like Yul Brynner, Eli Wallach, Steve McQueen, and Charles Bronson. But did you know that version was also a remake? It was inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s incredible 1954 film, Seven Samurai, which was actually released here in the States under the title The Magnificent Seven!

Chris Pratt plays Joshua Faraday in The Magnificent Seven, a talented gambler and sharpshooter who also knows a thing or two about card magic. While Faraday wasn’t in the original 1960 film, he shares some similarities with Steve McQueen’s character, Vin Tanner. Faraday joins a group of men dedicated to defending the town of Rose Creek from Bartholomew Bogue, played by Peter Sarsgaard, a ruthless businessman who exploits the townspeople by forcing them to work in his gold mine.

The new version of The Magnificent Seven stars Denzel Washington as Sam Chisolm, a bounty hunter who, like Yul Brynner’s character in the original film, gathers a team to defend the town of Rose Creek. He recruits sharpshooter Faraday (Chris Pratt) and five other skilled fighters: Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier).

Antoine Fuqua directed this remake of The Magnificent Seven, with a screenplay by Nic Pizzolatto and Richard Wenk. The film’s score was partially composed by James Horner before his death in June 2015, and Simon Franglen completed the music.

The 2016 film The Magnificent Seven, which will celebrate its 10th anniversary on September 23rd, had a moderate performance at the box office and received mixed reviews from critics. It currently holds a 64% rating from critics and a 71% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Before the film’s release, Chris Pratt was nominated for a Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Actor: AnTEENcipated.

The film is now available on Pluto TV. Recently, it was announced that Michael Ealy will star in the upcoming TV series based on The Magnificent Seven, currently being developed for MGM+. Chris Pratt will also appear in Way of the Warrior Kid, premiering on Apple TV on November 20th, alongside Jude Hill and Linda Cardellini.
