Terrifier Creator Teams Up With Sam Raimi for Next Horror Movie

Fans are about to say goodbye to a beloved series. Following the conclusion of Art the Clown’s story, director Damien Leone will collaborate with Sam Raimi on his next film, marking a new chapter after the Terrifier movies.

Damien Leone is currently making Terrifier 4, which he intends to be the final chapter in Art the Clown’s story. After that, he’s scheduled to write, direct, and produce Tortures of the Damned for Lionsgate. Horror legend Sam Raimi and his producing partner Rob Tapert will also be producing the film. Scott O’Brien and Pavan Kalidindi will oversee the project for Lionsgate, and Romel Adam and Jose Cañas will oversee for Ghost House Pictures.

Damien Leone Sets First Post-Terrifier Movie

Lionsgate is excited to collaborate with Damien Leone on his next film, following the success of the Terrifier series. Erin Westerman, President of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, shared that many at Lionsgate—including herself—are longtime fans of Leone’s work. She described him as a uniquely talented horror director and said they’re happy to support his new, ambitious project and continue building his relationship with fans worldwide.

Tortures of the Damned will be director Damien Leone’s first feature film since the original Terrifier came out in 2016. While the story is still a secret, the new movie will have a different feel than the first one, and a significantly larger budget. It’s unclear if it will be as gory as Terrifier – that’s a high standard – but it will likely be just as disturbing, though potentially in a new direction.

Art the Clown Is a Pop Culture Icon

The first Terrifier movie gained a dedicated following, but the franchise became a mainstream success with the release of Terrifier 2 in 2022. Despite costing only $250,000 to make, the sequel earned over $15 million worldwide, making it a huge financial success. It also established Art the Clown as a prominent modern horror villain. This was an impressive accomplishment for Damien Leone, who single-handedly wrote, produced, edited, handled sound, and created the special effects for the film.

Released in 2024, Terrifier 3 was a major success. The film brought back David Howard Thornton as the terrifying Art the Clown and Lauren LaVera as Sienna Shaw, and it was the most gruesome movie in the series so far. With a Christmas setting, Art even appeared as a twisted Santa Claus, delivering uniquely bloody and imaginative kills. Despite a small $2 million budget, the film grossed over $90 million.

Damien Leone has hinted that Terrifier 4 will take place around New Year’s Eve and will delve deeper into the backstory of Art the Clown. He’s stated this is intended to be the last film, but as horror fans know, sequels are common in slasher movies. For example, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter wasn’t actually the end – it was followed by eight more films.
