The beloved 90s sitcom A Different World is coming back this fall on . Fans will be excited to hear that the show’s reboot now has an official release date, and some original cast members are returning to reprise their famous roles.
A revival of A Different World is coming to Netflix on September 24, 2026. Like the original series, it will be set at Hillman College and will include both new characters and familiar faces. Felicia Pride, known for her work on Grey’s Anatomy and Bel-Air, is the showrunner and executive producer. The first season will have more than 10 episodes, and a short trailer has just been released, giving viewers a first look at the new show before it premieres this fall.
A Different World Gets Revived by Netflix
“I’m incredibly honored to be involved with a show I grew up watching that deeply influenced my life,” Pride shared. “We’re really excited about bringing a fresh take on A Different World for both longtime fans and a new audience.”
Debbie Allen, who originally produced and directed the series and is now an executive producer on the reboot, explained, “Now is the perfect time to bring back A Different World. Our show had a real impact, significantly increasing enrollment at historically Black colleges and giving a powerful voice to young Black Americans. Combining that legacy with exciting new talent and familiar faces from the original series makes this Netflix return something everyone will want to watch.”
The upcoming continuation of the series will focus on Deborah Wayne, the youngest daughter of Dwayne and Whitley Wayne, played by Maleah Joi Moon. Joining the cast are Alijah Kai Haggins, Cornell Young IV, Jordan Aaron Hall, Kennedi Reece, Chibukem Uche, Cliff “Method Man” Smith, Norman Nixon Jr., Vincent Jamal Hooper, Elijah J. Roberts, and Renee Harrison.
Many Familiar Faces Return in the Reboot
In addition to Hardison and Guy, the show will also bring back familiar faces like Darryl M. Bell as Ron Johnson, Cree Summer as Freddie Brooks, Ajai Sanders as Gina Deveaux, Karen Malina White as Charmaine Brown, Charnele Brown as Dr. Kimberly Reese Boyer, Jenifer Lewis as Professor Davenport, Dawnn Lewis as Jaleesa Vinson-Taylor, and Glynn Turman as Colonel Bradford Taylor.
The story follows the youngest child of Deborah, Dwayne Wayne, and Whitley Gilbert as she starts her freshman year at Hillman College. She hopes to create her own identity and have fun, but finds it hard to escape the legacy of her famous parents while navigating college life with a new group of friends.
