Joan Cusack recently discussed her return to the Toy Story movies, marking her first red carpet event in over a decade. She’s reprising her role as the voice of Jessie the cowgirl in the fifth Toy Story film, which will be released in theaters next month.
John Cusack made his first red carpet appearance since 2015 last night at the London premiere of his new movie, accompanied by his wife, Richard Burke.
In a recent interview with Deadline, the actress discussed how she approaches playing Jessie, particularly compared to when she first voiced the character in Toy Story 2 back in 1999. She explained that she’s come to appreciate the skill involved, noting that it requires focusing entirely on vocal performance since facial expressions and body language aren’t possible.

It’s surprisingly difficult to fully appreciate your own performance – you don’t quite recognize the power of your voice. Luckily, the director, Andrew Stanton, has a knack for recognizing what we bring to the table; that’s his expertise.
She explained that he’s always encouraged her, and this time she felt confident in her skills and ability to really excel. She said it felt good to finally reach that point.

John Cusack joins Tom Hanks and Tim Allen in Toy Story 5, reprising their roles as Woody and Buzz Lightyear. Alan Cumming will also return to voice Bullseye, Jessie’s horse, in a special dream sequence.
The host of Traitors US recently told LADbible that while the appearance is brief, it’s exciting because this character hasn’t been voiced before.

The actor said it was a wonderful privilege to be involved with Toy Story, and he was overjoyed, proud, and still amazed by the experience.
The upcoming movie features the toys confronting a world increasingly focused on modern technology. Director Andrew Stanton has described the film as less of a battle and more about the toys coming to terms with the fact that children aren’t playing with them as much anymore.
As a parent, I’ve been thinking a lot about how technology is changing everything, not just for me, but especially for my kids. It’s easy to just blame tech for everything, but we need to look deeper than that, as I was saying to Empire magazine.
Toy Story 5 is released in cinemas on 19 June.
