The Aurel Schmidt x PORTER Collection’s Got an Illustrative Edge

Summary

  • Japanese heritage label PORTER unveiled a collaborative bag line with New York-based artist Aurel Schmidt
  • The collection spans four pieces: a backpack, a two-way tote, a roll Boston bag and a two-way Madison bag
  • The pieces are now available via select PORTER locations and the YOSHIDA & Co. web store

Aurel Schmidt is an artist who creates work from found objects – it’s a natural fit for a city dweller, she says. Her popular Trash Dolls series features playful characters made from things like cigarette butts, lost pills, and broken toys. Now, the New York-based artist has partnered with luggage brand PORTER to bring her unique, slightly chaotic style to a new line of bags and accessories.

The collection includes four bags – a backpack, a versatile tote, a roll-style Boston bag, and a two-way Madison bag. Each bag is finished with bright, colorful zippers and a traditional Japanese omamori charm for a fun, unique touch.

Schmidt’s new design features unique illustrations based on her experiences in Japan, blended with references to PORTER’s history. Motifs like fish heads, fruit peels, lucky charms, and coins are printed on white nylon. Each piece is one-of-a-kind because the fabric is cut randomly, ensuring no two are exactly the same.
