Henry Cavill’s Superman Returns With Armored New Suit In DC Art Ahead Of Man Of Tomorrow

Henry Cavill’s Superman flies again in exciting DC fan art with a new suit.

Henry Cavill was a key figure in the previous DC movie universe, so many fans were surprised when James Gunn chose a different actor for his new DC Universe. However, it made sense creatively, as the new projects—starting with the 2025 film Superman—will feature a younger Superman. While this change happened, it doesn’t necessarily mean Cavill will never return to DC, and a future role as Superman isn’t entirely off the table.

I was so excited to see what someone imagined Henry Cavill’s Superman looking like if he came back! A DeviantArt user, @N7JoeShep, created a really cool picture of him in a brand new suit, and it looks amazing. It definitely got me hoping we’ll see him back in the role soon!

As a big Superman fan, I’ve been looking at some amazing new fan art, and it’s really interesting to see how the suit designs are evolving. Henry Cavill’s Superman suit always felt very… otherworldly, almost like it wasn’t made on Earth. This new art takes that idea and runs with it, adding more armor and really leaning into the look of the New 52 comics. It feels like a natural progression for his version of the character – super modern, sleek, and honestly, really cool. It’s a really elegant take on the Man of Steel’s look.

How Henry Cavill’s Superman Could Return After The End Of The DCEU

Although the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) is finished, those versions of DC’s characters might not be gone for good. The new DC Universe (DCU) won’t be featuring those actors as main characters, but the idea of a multiverse—where different versions of characters can exist—could allow for returns like Henry Cavill as Superman. We already saw multiple universes introduced in season 2 of Peacemaker, and James Gunn even thought about having Ryan Reynolds appear as Deadpool in the DCEU.

Given the possibility of a DC and Marvel crossover involving the multiverse, it feels inevitable that Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Superman. It’s a much simpler move to get audiences and rights holders on board. A large-scale multiverse event, similar to the ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ comic storyline, would be an ideal way to bring back characters from the previous DC Universe, like Cavill’s Superman and Ben Affleck’s Batman. The fact that Jason Momoa, formerly Aquaman, is now playing Lobo in the new DC Universe shows they’re already open to bringing back familiar faces.

Henry Cavill Could Have A DC Future That Does Not Include Superman

Even if James Gunn decides not to bring Henry Cavill back as Superman in future films using the multiverse, that won’t necessarily be the last fans see of him in the DC Universe. When Cavill announced he wouldn’t be continuing as Superman, Gunn stated that he and Peter Safran, co-CEO of DC Studios, had discussed the possibility of Cavill playing other DC characters instead.

Given that the new DC Universe (DCU) is intentionally moving away from the previous DC Extended Universe (DCEU), it might be best for Henry Cavill to explore other roles within DC, even though fans love seeing artwork of him in updated Superman suits. He’d be a great fit for characters like Human Target, General Zod, Vandal Savage, or Orion. While a cameo and potential role as Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Deadpool & Wolverine is possible, having Cavill join the new DC Universe would be ideal.
