Following the premiere of Season 9, a first look at President Curtis has been revealed. This new series, focusing on the popular character voiced by Keith David, will premiere on Adult Swim this summer.

A new trailer for the show President Curtis originally appeared on Adult Swim and is now available to watch online. In the trailer, Rick and Morty are flipping through channels and stumble upon President Curtis giving a speech. They joke about the president “doing his own thing,” with Rick pointing out that the show seems to be dealing with mysteries similar to The X-Files. President Curtis Will Premiere in July

The spinoff was at San Diego Comic-Con last year. Created by Dan Harmon and James Siciliano, President Curtis will see Keith David reprising his longtime role as the titular politician. Stephanie Beatriz (Twisted Metal) and Jim Rash (Community) are also among the starring cast members. In the show, the Commander-in-Chief and his staff tackle the “kind of crises that Rick Sanchez could never be bothered with — from interdimensional diplomacy to paranormal investigations and unexplained phenomena,” per the logline.

David expressed his excitement about the new series, saying he’s always enjoyed playing President Curtis. He described the opportunity to delve deeper into the character’s world as a dream come true and hinted that fans can expect plenty of trouble when Curtis is left to his own devices, without Rick to overshadow him.

Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen explained that they would have approved the series regardless of its unique element, praising the character of President Andre Curtis as exceptionally well-developed. He also highlighted the engaging world the creators have built, saying it’s strong enough to stand on its own. They are eager for audiences to experience the show.

Harmon and Siciliano shared that President Curtis has always been a standout character – the only one capable of matching wits with Rick Sanchez while still maintaining his position as a leader. They’re excited to finally explore sci-fi adventures through Curtis’s eyes, and with Keith David as the star, they promise it will be an exciting journey.

President Curtis first appeared in the animated show Rick and Morty back in 2015, in an episode called “Get Schwifty.” He’s a parody of U.S. Presidents like Barack Obama, and is portrayed as someone who reluctantly relies on Rick for help, especially when the world is in danger. The character proved popular with viewers, so he began appearing in more episodes, eventually leading to the development of his own spin-off series.

President Curtis will premiere on Adult Swim in July.
