USM’s furniture system just got a major upgrade! They’ve partnered with Symbol Audio to create new speaker modules that seamlessly integrate with USM’s modular furniture. These HiFi speakers were officially revealed at NYC Design Week, making the system even more versatile and appealing to audiophiles.
At the Afternoon Light Design Fair in Lower Manhattan, USM and Symbol unveiled a unique immersive lounge experience. The centerpiece was a tall shelving unit housing a sophisticated speaker system, known as the “Wall of Sound.” The system features Symbol’s high-quality audio components, all seamlessly integrated with USM’s modern design. Available in three sizes – small, large, and subwoofer – the setup was complemented by USM’s new soft panels. These panels, made from semi-recycled polyester and offered in ten colors, are a simple alternative to traditional panels and also improve the lounge’s acoustics by absorbing sound, unlike metal surfaces which can deaden it.
In 2024, audio brand Symbol partnered with Swiss design company USM to create a line of record storage and media stations. Known for its industrial aesthetic, USM’s design perfectly complemented Symbol’s products. Symbol, founded by furniture designer Blake Tovin and his son Walker, had long admired USM’s work. Walker Tovin, Symbol’s Managing Director, explained that they saw this collaboration as a chance to combine music and iconic design. The resulting pieces integrate sound systems directly into USM’s framework, offering a high-quality listening experience while maintaining the brand’s clean, minimalist look.
You can now find the complete Symbol collection at the Symbol Loft store located at 262 Bowery in Lower Manhattan, as well as on the Symbol website.
