A particular scene from the popular animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, suggests who the greatest Jedi of all time is. This well-loved Master is even more skilled than his student, Anakin Skywalker, because he possesses the key trait that defines a truly strong Jedi.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Proved That No One Could Break Obi-Wan

The animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars explores the true qualities of a Jedi, and highlights that not everyone within the Jedi Order embodies them. A pivotal moment occurs in Season 5’s “The Lawless” episode, where Obi-Wan Kenobi is devastated by the death of a loved one at the hands of his enemy. His reaction in the aftermath demonstrates his remarkable resilience and inner strength.

Duchess Satine of Mandalore and Obi-Wan Kenobi shared a deep love for each other. Obi-Wan once confessed he would have abandoned the Jedi Order if Satine had asked him to. Sadly, their relationship was doomed, and it ended in a heartbreaking way neither of them expected. Driven by his desire for revenge, Darth Maul tricked Obi-Wan into coming to Mandalore, where Obi-Wan was forced to witness Maul kill Satine.

As Obi-Wan holds the body of his beloved Satine, overwhelmed with grief, viewers truly understand the depth of his strength as a Jedi. The pain he feels echoes a tragedy from years past, and foreshadows the losses that would ultimately drive his former student, Anakin Skywalker, to darkness. However, unlike Anakin, Obi-Wan doesn’t succumb to despair.

As a film fan, I’ve always seen Obi-Wan Kenobi as the perfect Jedi. He feels things, deeply, but he never lets those feelings overwhelm him. Despite experiencing huge losses and terrible events, he consistently chooses restraint over anger. Even when confronted by someone who’s caused him immense pain, his moral compass remains unwavering. Honestly, to me, he embodies everything a Jedi should be – I don’t think there’s a stronger or more admirable Jedi out there.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Influenced the Next Generation of Jedi

As a film fan, I’ve always thought Obi-Wan Kenobi was brilliantly positioned to shape the next generation of Jedi. It’s so poignant that, right before he passed, he got to begin Luke Skywalker’s training. Even though their time together was tragically brief, Obi-Wan clearly left a huge impression on Luke, something that stayed with him throughout his journey.

While Yoda ultimately finished Luke’s Jedi training, Obi-Wan Kenobi had the biggest impact on the kind of Jedi Luke became. In their brief time together, Obi-Wan not only taught Luke skills, but also encouraged him to maintain the strong moral character that had protected Obi-Wan from falling to the dark side many times before. This guidance proved crucial to Luke’s decisions throughout the original Star Wars trilogy.

Luke Skywalker’s strong moral character, developed thanks to his early training, allows him to resist the Emperor’s attempts to turn him to the dark side in Return of the Jedi. Despite his fear and anger, he refuses to kill his father, choosing instead to remain a Jedi, like Obi-Wan Kenobi. Facing a similar challenge his father once did, Luke follows Obi-Wan’s example, consistently choosing the path of good despite great suffering and loss.

He established a new school to train a new generation of Force-sensitive individuals, sharing the knowledge Obi-Wan Kenobi had passed on to him. He taught students like Grogu, Ben Solo, and Rey Skywalker, ensuring Obi-Wan’s legacy and strength continued for many years after his passing.

While Obi-Wan Kenobi might not be the most naturally gifted Jedi – he wasn’t as powerful with a lightsaber as Mace Windu or as strong in the Force as Yoda – his unwavering determination and strong moral character set him apart. Ultimately, these qualities make him the most compelling and strongest character in the entire Star Wars saga.
