British action thriller ‘with echoes of Line of Duty’ confirms exciting new-season update

The Sky thriller Prisoner has become very popular since it first aired a few weeks ago, so it’s no surprise they’ve quickly confirmed a second season, and some details about the new episodes have already been revealed.

Izuka Hoyle, known for her role in Big Boys, will reprise her character, Amber Todd, in the next season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amber will be dealing with personal challenges – trying to hold her family together after the difficult events of the first season.

This time, she’s assigned to guard a US professor who has become a killer and is at the heart of a very controversial situation.

When someone within law enforcement tries to harm her, Amber is falsely accused of murder. Now, she must protect the person in her care while simultaneously proving her innocence.

Filming for the new season will begin later this year, and if the first season was filmed last year, we can likely expect the new episodes in 2027.

The first season was well-received by critics, who often drew comparisons to a popular British crime show.

According to The Herald Scotland, the show shares similarities with Line of Duty, but it remains surprisingly original and captivating.

Both The Guardian and the Irish Independent found the show entertaining. The Guardian described it as a fast-paced police drama similar to Line of Duty, praising its smooth narrative. The Irish Independent suggested viewers could enjoy it if they didn’t focus on how unrealistic it was.

According to The Times, the show is effective, similar to Line of Duty, largely due to the dedicated performances of Izuka Hoyle and Tahar Rahim.

“Yes, it’s popcorn TV, but there are twists, rug-pulls and a climactic corpse-strewn gun battle.”
