Taskmaster fan-favourite Sam Campbell’s new scripted Channel 4 series confirms release date

I’m so excited! Sam Campbell, who’s hilarious on Taskmaster, has a new comedy series coming to Channel 4 called Make That Movie. From what I’ve heard, he plays a director trying to pull off making a film with a really quirky team, and they’re on a super tight deadline. It sounds absolutely brilliant!

Despite tight deadlines and limited resources, Sam and his team are determined to make their movie. They’re traveling across the country, searching for everyday people who have compelling stories for a feature film.

After locating the perfect spot, the director and his close-knit crew – including Jess the runner, Sebastian the intimacy coordinator, sound engineer Pat, and cinematographer Winnie – set out to create a film in just three days.

The new six-part comedy series, created by Campbell and directed by Joe Pelling, will debut on Channel 4 on May 28th. Blink Industries produced the show, and both Campbell and Pelling also worked as executive producers.

The announcement of the release date came with a wild trailer. It shows Sam, portraying a fictionalized version of himself, and his team traveling around the UK, trying to find (and maybe even take!) the next big movie idea.

In one scene, Sam yells, “I know you have a masterpiece inside of you, and I’m going to help you create it!” It’s uncertain whether his passionate outburst will motivate or frighten those around him.

Campbell is an actor known for his roles in shows like Stath Lets Flats, the Australian comedy Fisk, and New Zealand Spy. He was also the winner of season 16 of Taskmaster in 2023, competing against Julian Clary, Lucy Beaumont, Sue Perkins, and Susan Wokoma.

He rejoined the show last year for the fourth season of its spin-off, Champion of Champions, where previous winners face off. This season, he competed against Andy Zaltzman, John Robins, Maisie Adam, and Mathew Baynton.

Campbell appeared in the second season of LOL: Last One Laughing UK, which premiered on Prime Video in March. He did very well, finishing second to David Mitchell.

Make That Movie starts airing on Channel 4 on 28 May.
