Last year, Netflix released a fantasy film that quickly became a critical and commercial success, topping streaming charts globally and establishing itself as one of the service’s best movies. Netflix offers a diverse range of original films, spanning many genres and featuring both established actors and rising stars, providing subscribers with engaging entertainment they can enjoy at home.
As of mid-2026, Netflix has offered a diverse range of popular movies, including the concluding film in the Peaky Blinders saga and surprise sci-fi releases like War Machine, starring Alan Ritchson, which unexpectedly shifts genres. With so much already available, and half the year still ahead, there’s truly something for every viewer.
The new fantasy film Swapped is off to an incredible start and could become one of Netflix’s biggest hits. It racked up 38.7 million views in its first week, making it the most-watched animated movie on Netflix ever for that period. This is a significant achievement, as it surpassed KPop Demon Hunters, and it reminded me of another recent fantasy release.
Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein came to Netflix on November 7, 2025, following a limited theatrical run that qualified it for awards consideration. Even though it’s only been available on the streaming service for six months, I believe Frankenstein will be remembered as one of the best movies Netflix has ever produced.
Netflix’s Frankenstein Is An All-Around Masterpiece
Netflix’s Frankenstein is a remarkably well-made film – it’s hard to find any weaknesses in any aspect of its production. Clearly made with passion, the movie excels in every area, from its imaginative sets and authentic costumes that vividly bring the 19th century to life, to a fresh and compelling take on Frankenstein’s monster. The visual effects, cinematography, script, acting, and direction are all outstanding.
The movie Frankenstein boasts an impressive cast, including stars like Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, and Christoph Waltz. However, it was Isaac’s portrayal of the complex Victor Frankenstein and Elordi’s performance as his uniquely endearing Creature that truly captivated audiences. These two performances are central to the film’s success, and Elordi even earned his first Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Frankenstein on Netflix is a stunning example of skilled filmmaking and is a truly soaring achievement.
The movie Frankenstein is a hit on Netflix, and the numbers prove it. It has earned an impressive 85% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 376 reviews. Viewers loved it even more, giving it a remarkable 94% audience score. When it was released, Frankenstein quickly became popular in many countries, demonstrating its broad appeal.
Why Frankenstein Should Stand The Test Of Time On Netflix
Most people are familiar with the story of Frankenstein, whether through Mary Shelley’s novel, a movie, or another retelling. While there have been many adaptations over the years, Guillermo del Toro’s version is particularly stunning and memorable. This new film delivers a classic story with incredible skill, making Netflix’s Frankenstein a truly unforgettable experience.
Netflix regularly releases new films, but so far in 2024, none have had the impact of Frankenstein. It’s easily one of the streaming service’s best fantasy movies and looks set to become a classic that people will continue to enjoy for years to come.
