Hulu Walks Back Controversial Futurama Change Less Than 1 Year Later

The show will be back for a new season on Hulu, and this time it will release episodes weekly, like it used to. Last season, Season 13, was released all at once on Hulu – a first for the show in its 27-year run.

It looks like the recent batch of episodes might be the only ones released all at once. Futurama season 14 is going back to releasing episodes one by one each week. Hulu has announced the new season will start on August 3rd, with a new episode coming out every week until all 10 episodes have aired.

Futurama Is Abandoning the Binge Release on Hulu

Most Futurama fans probably prefer this approach. Considering the show’s history, aside from the period with direct-to-DVD movies, fans have enjoyed new Futurama episodes on a weekly basis for almost thirty years – whenever new episodes are actually being made, that is.

It was a shame that, because of how quickly all the episodes were released at once, it wasn’t remembered for very long.

After waking up in the futuristic city of New New York, Fry quickly makes friends with Bender, a robot with a fondness for alcohol, and falls for Leela, a one-eyed alien. They all end up working at Planet Express, a delivery company run by Fry’s distant relative, Professor Farnsworth. Along with their coworkers – the meticulous accountant Hermes, the eager assistant Amy, and the quirky alien doctor Zoidberg – they go on exciting adventures across the galaxy.

Originally airing on Fox, Futurama was canceled in 2003. Comedy Central revived the show in 2010, continuing it until 2013. After another ten-year break, Hulu brought the series back to life in 2023.

Every time Futurama comes back, the original voice actors return, including John DiMaggio, Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil Lamar, and David Herman.
