George A. Romero’s Final Chapter of Living Dead Saga Finally Moves Forward

The long-running story of the zombie saga will conclude with its final chapter. This brings to a close a tale that began in 1968 with the groundbreaking horror film Night of the Living Dead, which defined the zombie genre for decades.

Good news for fans of zombie movies: production on Twilight of the Dead is moving forward with a fresh start. Originally, Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil) was going to star and Brad Anderson (Session 9) was set to direct. However, Kate Beckinsale (Underworld) has now replaced Jovovich as the lead, and the filmmakers are currently casting other roles.

Doron and Yoav Paz, known for their films The Golem and Plan A, are now co-directing the project, taking over from the previous director. Ho Sung Pak, who worked on Bullet Train, will direct all the stunt work and action scenes. Magenta Light Studios, led by Bob Yari, will handle distribution in North America and plans to release the movie in cinemas throughout the United States and Canada.

Yari is producing the film with Shaun Sanghani from SSS Entertainment and Kenneth Kim, Ho Sung Pak, and George Furla from Aanaxion. John Baldecchi and Sarah Donnelly of Roundtable Entertainment are also producers, and Roundtable President Dominic Ianno is executive producing alongside Suzanne Romero, the widow of George A. Romero. Jeffrey Giles and Michael Lurie will handle sales at the Cannes market and are also executive producers.

As a huge fan, it was really sad when George A. Romero passed away in 2017. But before he did, he actually finished the treatment for what he envisioned as Twilight of the Dead – his intended final Living Dead movie. Now, the producers have suggested they might make more films later on if Twilight of the Dead does well, but make no mistake: this one was the last to come directly from Romero’s own ideas. It’s a bit bittersweet, but I’m excited to see his vision finally come to life!

Kate Beckinsale Will Lead the Cast of Twilight of the Dead

The Paz Brothers described working on this film as a great honor for any director of horror. They feel it’s not just about continuing Romero’s work, but also about respecting his artistic vision. They’re dedicated to creating a truly frightening and memorable experience for modern audiences – one that will stay with viewers long after the credits roll.

Baldecchi said they are excited to have the actress starring in Twilight of the Dead. They believe her incredible talent, ability to convey emotion, and strong on-screen personality make her ideal for leading the final installment in a way that honors George’s work.

Yari noted that George Romero was a hugely successful and important figure in horror filmmaking, and his last movie should be seen in a cinema. They’re excited to be working with his family and the film’s creators to release Twilight of the Dead, which they see as a great addition to their collection of films. They promise a thrilling experience for fans who have waited a long time for this final installment.

George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead is a landmark horror film and a hugely influential zombie classic, inspiring countless remakes and similar movies. Romero continued the story with two sequels: Dawn of the Dead (1978) and Day of the Dead (1985). He later returned to the zombie genre after a 20-year break with Land of the Dead (2005), followed by Diary of the Dead (2007) and Survival of the Dead (2009).

Twilight of the Dead does not yet have a release date.
