The new BBC drama Dear England, starring Joseph Fiennes as Gareth Southgate, will premiere very soon – on May 24th.
This drama is inspired by the acclaimed play of the same name and tells a fictional story about the England men’s football team’s journey under Gareth Southgate from 2016 to 2024, highlighting both their challenges and achievements.
The four-part series comes from Left Bank Pictures, the company that created the BBC’s This City is Ours and Netflix’s Dept. Q. It features a strong cast, including Jodie Whittaker and Jason Watkins.

Gareth is taking over as England’s manager with a team known for having the most penalties in the world. The summary suggests he needs to learn from past mistakes and address long-standing issues if he wants to lead England to success.
England, the birthplace of football, consistently struggles to achieve victory in the sport. Many are left wondering why they can’t succeed at a game they invented, as reported by the BBC.
