Supercell announced big changes coming to Clash Royale on May 26, 2026. The update includes a new system called Collection Levels, completely removes King’s Journey, and improves Masteries to make it easier and more satisfying to level up your cards.

Supercell has also announced plans to add several new features in the coming months, including a new game mode called Evolution, updates to Heroes, and the return of the popular C.H.A.O.S Mode. Here’s a closer look at what’s coming.

Clash Royale May 2026 Update: All updates and changes explained

King’s Journey bids goodbye as Collection Levels arrive

The main change in this update is that we’ve removed King’s Journey. We’re moving away from a system where progress relies heavily on experience points (XP) because it’s become overly complicated. Previously, upgrading cards, earning XP, and opening rewards didn’t always align with building the deck you wanted.

Supercell acknowledged the old progression system had become confusing and wasn’t enjoyable for players. They’ve replaced it with a new system called Collection Level. Instead of earning experience points (XP), your progress now depends on the cards you collect. Here’s how your Collection Level is determined:

Action Collection Level Gain
Unlocking a card Based on rarity
Upgrading a card +1 Level
Unlocking an Evolution +5 Levels
Unlocking a Hero form +5 Levels

Upgrading your cards increases your Collection Level. Although unlocking rarer cards gives you a bigger initial boost to your Collection Level, each upgrade you make always adds +1, regardless of the card’s rarity.

Milestones and rewards become easier to follow

This update improves how you earn rewards. Instead of getting experience points in a seemingly random way, you’ll now receive rewards as you reach new levels in your Collections.

You’ll start receiving rewards at Collection Level 20, and you’ll continue to earn them every 10 levels after that. Once you reach Collection Level 1500, you’ll get rewards even more often – every 5 levels.

Supercell announced that when the new update arrives, you’ll instantly be assigned a Collection Level reflecting your current progress. You’ll also get special rewards based on that level.

King Tower upgrades now work differently

The way you level up your King Tower is changing. Previously, you gained experience points (XP) to improve it. Now, your King Tower level will increase based on how many of your cards you upgrade. Don’t worry, your King Tower level won’t decrease – it will either stay the same or go up on its own.

We’re changing how you unlock features as you play. Instead of relying on how far you’ve progressed with your King Tower, things like Pass Royale and Clans will now unlock as you reach new Arenas. We’re also removing XP entirely.

After the update, you won’t earn experience points (XP) from upgrading cards, completing Masteries, or donating to your clan. You can find details about the changes to King Tower requirements here.

Card Masteries are becoming easier

Okay, so they’re completely reworking how Card Masteries work, which is awesome! Basically, the requirements for finishing up those card challenges are getting way easier. I’m talking a big drop in how much you need to do for each card. It’s going to be a lot less grindy, and I’m really excited about that!

If an update introduces a new requirement, and you’ve already made enough progress on a task to meet it, the game will automatically finish the task when the update installs. If you haven’t quite met the new requirement yet, don’t worry – your progress will be saved, so you won’t have to start over from the beginning.

We’re also updating the rewards you earn. Gems and Wild Cards will now be unlocked as you increase your Collection Level, rather than through Masteries. Masteries will now primarily give you Gold, which will help you upgrade your cards.

Overall reward distribution gets a change

Due to recent updates, your rewards are changing.

Resource Old System New System
Gold 4,470,949 5,165,625
Gems 14,330 14,945
Common Wild Cards 6,431 37,169
Rare Wild Cards 3,073 9,275
Epic Wild Cards 667 1,473
Legendary Wild Card 3 71
Champion Wild Cards 3 26
Random Common Cards 17,783 44,641
Random Rare Cards 4,382 3,828
Random Epic Cards 1,182 416
Random Legendary Cards 42 23
Random Champion Cards 8 5
Evolution Shards (from Evolution Boxes) 11 16

The recent updates to how you advance in the game will give you much better rewards, including more Gold, Gems, Wild Cards, and Evolution Shards. However, you’ll see a change in the types of Wild Cards you get – more of the Common and Rare ones, and a significant increase in Legendary and Champion Wild Cards.

We’ve decreased the number of Random Rare, Epic, Legendary, and Champion Cards you’ll receive compared to the previous system.
