Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the live-action The Legend of Zelda movie will now be released worldwide on April 30, 2027 – a week earlier than originally planned. This new date coincides with Japan’s Golden Week holiday, a popular travel period. Miyamoto shared that the team is working hard to finish the movie quickly, and filming wrapped up in April 2026. The film is now in the extensive post-production process.

Hi, this is Miyamoto. I’m happy to announce that the live-action Legend of Zelda movie will now be released on April 30, 2027 – a bit earlier than the previously announced date of May 7th. Everyone on the team is working hard to get the movie to you as quickly as possible. And, well, that’s all for now…

This is the second time the movie’s release date has been changed. Originally planned for March 26, 2027, it was first delayed to May 2026 to allow more time for production. However, this latest change is unusual – the release date has been moved forward, suggesting Nintendo is very pleased with how the movie is turning out.

Wes Ball, who directed Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is at the helm of this new movie, with Benjamin Evan Ainsworth playing Link and Bo Bragason as Zelda. It’s a highly anticipated adaptation, especially after the huge success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Super Mario Galaxy.
