Vault Comics’ Hit Medieval Fantasy Series Is Coming to Netflix

Vault Comics is expanding into television, and there’s buzz that some major stars will be involved in the upcoming live-action series.

According to Deadline, Netflix has officially ordered a series based on Barbaric, a medieval fantasy drama adapted from the popular Vault comic book series of the same name. The show will be produced by A+E Studios, along with Sheldon Turner and Jennifer Klein’s 100% Production.

So, I just read about this new show, and it sounds awesome! It’s created by the guy who did Up In The Air and X-Men First Class, and it’s about this super tough, kinda rough barbarian who gets cursed. The catch? He can only use his fighting skills to do good! He ends up on this wild road trip with his talking axe – yeah, you read that right – and a young witch. Apparently, it’s all about him finding himself, making things right, and getting a little revenge along the way. I’m definitely checking this out!

When the live-action series of Barbaric was announced, several producers were also confirmed. Sam Claflin, known for Daisy Jones & The Six, will executive produce alongside his partners at Soft Claw Productions, Luke Carroll and Michael Stevenson. Turner and Klein from 100% Productions, Robert Rovner (Supergirl), who will co-run the show with Turner, Barry Jossen and Tana Jamieson from A+E Studios, Javier Grillo-Marxuach (Lost), F.J. DeSanto, and Damian Wassel from Vault Comics will also serve as executive producers.

What To Know About Barbaric

According to Vault Comics, the story is simple but full of action. The official description says Owen the Barbarian wields an axe and will use it, even to kill, if necessary. Owen is cursed to do good deeds with the time he has left, and surprisingly, his bloodthirsty axe has become his guide – though it has a bit of a drinking problem! Together, they travel the land, destined to help those in need. However, there’s one thing Owen despises even more than following rules: witches.

Barbaric does not have a cast or release date yet.
