Jennifer E. Montgomery makes her debut as a director with the thriller This Tempting Madness, which she co-wrote with Andrew M. Davis. Although the story is made up, it was sparked by a real-life accident experienced by a close friend of Montgomery’s.

“I would call my friend every morning and speak to her for an hour and then again in the evening and speak to her for an hour. [Initially] she could not form short-term memories and we’d repeat the conversation,” she told Screen Daily.

Over time, her memory improved, and she could eventually recall everything we discussed during our hour-long phone calls. I also encouraged her to keep a journal. When she finally recovered her memory and reviewed what she’d written, she was amazed and joked about it being a potential movie plot.

At the American Film Market in November 2025, Myriad Pictures CEO Kirk D’Amico announced the new thriller, praising lead actress Simone Ashley and director Jennifer. According to Deadline, D’Amico highlighted the film’s sophisticated story and strong direction, and also commended the film’s overall quality, including the cinematography, production design, and supporting cast.

Viewers who’ve seen the thriller at film festivals have given it strong positive reactions. One person on Letterboxd said it was consistently unsettling and exceptionally well-made, while another praised it as a nearly flawless and captivating film.

When is This Tempting Madness released?

This Tempting Madness is released in US cinemas on 12 June and on digital platforms on the same day.

It has yet to confirm a UK release date, but hopefully we don’t have to wait too long to watch it.
